Recap / F Is For Family S 4 E 1 Father Confessor

Go To

Father Pat is doing confessions, listening to all the confessions of various characters. His last confessor is Frank, who tells Father Pat about his horrible relationship with his father and all that has happened since he reentered Frank's life.

Tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: 'Big Bill' Murphy was a total jackass to Frank growing up.
  • Blatant Lies: Frank claiming that his own car is fine... when it is clearly damaged from the accident in the Season 3 finale.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Or rather 'adapted catchphrase' as Frank's infamous 'Put you through that fucking wall' threat was inspired by his father's threat of putting him down a well. Since there wasn't a well anywhere near him when he was kid, he changed it to a wall since he usually says it when around walls.
  • Call-Back: Anthony is still mad at Hobo JoJo, showing up at his autograph session about to attack him and sending him clumps of his hair.
  • Dope Slap: Sue does this to Frank when he makes a crack at her pregnancy.
  • Hesitation Equals Dishonesty: Sue’s reaction to hearing Frank’s claims that he was nice to his children is to say “...Yes.”
  • Historical In-Joke: Frank thinks to himself that by 1986, there will be a Black president.
  • No Sympathy: Kevin's reaction to hearing about some of his grandfather's unpleasant exploits to Frank growing up.
Kevin: Sounds pretty funny to me.
Frank: It wasn't funny, it hurt my feelings!
Kevin: That's what's so funny about it.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Frank tries to be nice around his father for the family. But when they are at the restaurant and Bill spills his drink on the table, similar to how Frank did so many years ago, Frank suddenly snaps at him just like his father did.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: Most of the episode takes place either in Frank's past when he lived with his father, or how life with his father is since the old man arrived a month ago.
