Three weeks after he got fired, Frank is still unemployed. On a snow day, Sue decides to take the family sledding to get them out of their slump.

- Beard of Sorrow: Frank has grown major stubble as a result of being unemployed.
- Caught with Your Pants Down: While getting back to bed after staying up late, Bill, unfortunately, comes to his and Kevin's room to see Kevin masturbating with lotion. The act is obstructed by Bill's shadow, but the poor boy has seen enough to once again need Brain Bleach.
- Eye Scream: Bill gets into a scuffle with Jimmy, and ends up falling down a hill. His foot hits Maureen, who was coming up after being told by their father, hard in the right side of her face, and she gets a major black eye and blood pouring out close to it. This causes the family to freak out and immediately go to the hospital.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus:
- In the newspaper that Frank reads about Roger Dunbarton, in which he doesn't give Frank any credit for stopping the strike, it reveals that over the years he has forbidden secretaries from wearing underwear.
- At the Sam's Starving Boy restaurant that the family goes to, some of the menu items include "Plantation Dog", "White Meat Supreme", and the "Uncle Tom Turkey Platter".
- Groin Attack: While on the ice attempting to impress Claire, Kevin slips and does a split, with his crotch taking the impact.
- No Sympathy: When Kevin falls into a hole in the icy river, Claire calls him a pussy. Frank, who comes to rescue Kevin, calls her a heartless bitch for saying such a thing.
- Saying Too Much: While scolding Claire about not feeling bad for Kevin's fear of water, Frank mentions that he almost drowned as an infant. This shocks Kevin, and Frank tries to backpedal.
- Scared of What's Behind You: Jimmy antagonizes Bill at the ice pond, but he seemingly runs away scared when Frank confronts him. It turns out that he was actually running a way from Susan, to which Jimmy adds that he is not scared of him and calls him a jobless pussy.
- Skewed Priorities: When the Murphy family go to the hospital, Frank asks the nurse to help Maureen with her damaged face, only for the nurse to point out that Kevin is suffering from hypothermia and might die.
- Time Skip: Season 1 and Season 2 take place three weeks from each other.
- Virgin-Shaming: Kevin's friends make fun of him for not getting laid. This causes him to try and hook up with Claire again.
- You Are Grounded!: When Frank carries Maureen after she gets an eye injury due to Bill, he tells Bill that he's grounded.
- Your Television Hates You: Feeling depressed over losing his job, Frank tries to watch TV to cheer him up. But as soon as he does, a commercial comes up of Mohican Airways, with the employees of the airline saying and displaying that they are doing just fine now that the strike is over. Frank is highly distressed by this.
