- The Bus Came Back: Fat Mike makes an appearance again, for the first and last time since his initial appearance and introduction.
- Department of Redundancy Department: Chris mentions delivering papers to "Spanish Harlem" and "Puerto Rican Harlem".
- Hypocrite: The whole family asks Julius for money for various things, to which Julius complies.. until Chris asks for a leather jacket. To quite a few viewers, this seems like a textbook example of Status Quo Is God, Kick the Dog, "Chris can never have nice things" Kafka Comedy, until..
- Hypocrite Has a Point: ..you realize that everybody else asked for fairly reasonable things. Tonya asked for $15 for a school trip to the Statue of Liberty. Drew asked for $5 to go to a show. Rochelle asked for $25 to go shopping. Chris asked for a leather jacket, though he already has a jacket, and can otherwise use Drew's old jacket. The leather jacket costs $50. While Chris is asking for a way to save up by doing work around the house and at school, he's still asking for money for something unnecessary and flashy, so Julius kind of has a reason to be annoyed, especially since Chris asked for a leather jacket specifically before Julius' interjection made him clarify that he meant to acquire one through an allowance.
- Overly Long Gag: Upon being asked for an allowance, Julius gives a long speech to Chris about how he already "allows" him to do a bunch of things at home.
- Sir Swears-a-Lot: Julius swears much more frequently when he's at work.
Narrator!Chris: "I haven't heard cursing like that since my father stepped on my mother's bunion!"
- Yank the Dog's Chain: A more downplayed one than usual. Chris finally saves up enough money to buy the jacket, but Fat Mike already bought the last one. He continues saving up until it finally comes back during the summer. Once he finally gets to show it off, he faints due to the heat.
