Local Sheriff Has Truly Unique Workplace Accident (again)
Carter: Is that even possible?
Fargo: Says the invisible Sherrif!

Carter begins to disappear on his anniversary, Zoe is stuck with another student for a school project, and Henry and Nathan examine the item Henry found.

Tropes

  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: Between Zoe and Lucas.
  • Call-Back:
    • Carter asks Henry about Beverly interfering with Kim's computer, which Henry told him about in E=MC...?.
    • The car Zoe won in Duck, Duck Goose features prominently as it is "infected" with invisibility when Zoe knocks down the invisible man.
  • Call-Forward: Zoe and Lucas finish their high-tech boxcar project on time, despite Lucas' pessimism, which he bases on knowledge of his limitations. This foreshadows that Zoe has a knack for robotics.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The cut Carter gets on his hand from Zoe's car after it turns invisible.
  • Determinator: Stark makes this observation of Carter when Henry tells him about letting things slip to Carter. Stark is sure Jack won't let the matter go until he's uncovered the whole thing.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When he hears that aluminium-26 was extracted from the moon rocks, Carter asks if it could have been stolen, like the other chemicals in town. Henry derisively says that anyone stealing the -26 would need security clearance as well as specialist knowledge and training.
Carter: Uh-huh. You mean, like half the people in town?
    Henry: [Oh, Crap! face]
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: The team are discussing the invisibility when Carter asks about the effects on humans. Stark tells him not to worry, as the exposure would have to be subcutaneous to have any effect.
    Stark: Say from an injection.
Carter: Or a cut finger. [Holds up his arm, which is invisible from above the elbow]
  • Heroic Fire Rescue: Callie asks Jack on a date after he pulls her from her dry cleaner's moments before it explodes. However, it's strongly implied she was interested in him anyway.
  • Holding Back the Phlebotinum: While investigating the pharmacy robbery, Carter finds crates marked "cure for the common cold." The pharmacist explains that the cure costs $6 million while a bowl of chicken soup costs $5.
  • Invisibility: It is accompanied by radiation.
  • Love Interest: Callie for Jack, Lucas for Zoe.
  • Self-Deprecation: Frequently used by Lucas. For example, when Zoe tells him she's not interested in him;
Lucas: That's what they all say.
Zoe: [Scornful] What, before they fall hopelessly in love with you?
Lucas: No, they just... say that.
  • Saying Too Much: Zoe, after her accident, insists that she was paying full attention to the road, and if her father doesn't believe her, he can ask her passenger! Then she looks annoyed, remembering that Carter told her to go straight to school without giving anyone a ride, and she just told on herself.
  • Shout-Out:
    • To The Invisible Man (1933), including many visual shout-outs once Carter is infected and can only be seen by wearing uninfected clothing.
    • Henry refers to Support Your Local Sheriff when he does a chemical analysis of some evidence for Carter.
    • When Carter is shown the real moon rocks (any you've seen in a museum is fake), his first reaction is, "Kryptonite!"
  • Smart People Play Chess: Zoe and Lucas at the end of the episode.
Zoe: I hope you're okay with a hot, shallow chick wiping the floor with you!
Lucas: I've been waiting my whole life!
  • Toxic Phlebotinum: Aluminium-26 is a vital ingredient in turning people invisible. It also makes the subject die of radiation sickness.
  • Wham Shot:
    • Jo finds security footage that shows the person who robbed the pharmacy was invisible.
    • Carter holds up his arm, showing everyone that he's turning invisible.
  • Women Drivers: Zoe has a car accident on her first solo drive. Justified since she hit something invisible.
  • Working the Same Case: Henry and Stark are trying to figure out why the moon rocks suddenly grew green crystals. Carter and Jo are investigating thefts of chemicals around town. When Henry mentions the rocks are missing aluminium-26, Carter asks him if the two cases are connected. Turns out all the stolen chemicals are components in the invisibility.
