This is what happens when you drive with the radio on.

Carter: You know It's the End of the World as We Know It? This is the town of people who can do it!

Houses are burned and visiting scientists are wormholed as people in Eureka start living out songs. Carter must figure out why before someone really causes trouble.

Allison goes to a medical conference, but never gets there as she is instead involved in an accident. She works to help an injured man, but is everything as it appears?

Tropes

  • Assurance Backfire:
Carter: I survived the teenage daughter. Aside from running away a few dozen times and a short stint in jail she turned out fine.
  • Bad Boss: Fargo makes Larry work on his vacation.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Between Jo and Zane. Impressive given that he burned her house down earlier.
  • Call-Back: Holly is coming to review GD following the rogue launch. Fargo thinks she's coming to shut them down, but in fact she's there to assess the FTL Drive's viability for a twenty-billion dollar grant to make a journey to Titan.
  • Chekhov's Lecture: Holly is introduced giving Vincent a Motor Mouth explanation of the neuro-linguistic programming algorithms she's added to the music on her iPod. This is delivered at a bewildering pace, so a viewer could be forgiven for not remembering it when people start acting out songs.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Carter realises people are acting out songs, and asks if Zane's a Talking Heads fan as he realises Zane was acting out "Burning Down the House" when he burned down Jo's house.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Looking at the database of who's listening to what music, Kevin realises that Carter's in danger. From Bob Marley! Gilligan Cut to Carter out in public, with "I Shot the Sherrif" playing in the background.
  • Kid Detective: Kevin wants to be one. Apparently, Carter used to take him with him on police calls.
  • Oh, Crap!: Carter, when he's confronted by Jo aiming a gun at him, and realises she's been listening to "I Shot the Sherrif".
  • Once More, with Clarity: Allison goes on a trip out of town and has an adventure where she helps a young woman find her father after he's injured in a car crash. At the end, it's revealed she has a small device in her brain, and it's shown how she got it; on finding the crashed car, she was drugged and abducted by Beverly Barlowe.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The NLP music makes people do some insane things, and then look confused when people have a problem with it.
    • Fargo zapping Holly with the FTL Drive, not knowing where it might have sent her or if she's even still alive. To clarify; Fargo cold-bloodedly tried to kill someone.
    Jo: What'd you do?
Fargo: I got rid of her. It's for the best. So... who wants breakfast?
    • Zane can't get Jo to talk to him about their pre-time travel relationship, so to get her attention he burns down her house.
    • Someone lets a bunch of dogs out of a lab.
    • Fortunately, quite a few people are stuck at Café Diem listening to P!nk's "Get This Party Started," but Vincent seems about to turn violent when Carter threatens to unplug the jukebox.
    • Henry and Grace make a device to stop time after listening to "Stop Time and Melt with You."
    • Jo tries to kill Carter after listening to "I Shot the Sheriff." Unlike most examples, she realises she's not acting naturally and seems to be fighting the urge; it's implied she could have resisted if he hadn't changed into his uniform. Kevin clears her mind by playing "Why Can't we Be Friends?"
  • Pass the Popcorn: When Carter is playing referee between Zane and Jo, Kevin is seen snacking and watching attentively.
  • Power-Up Motif: In-universe. Fargo is shown psyching himself up to meet Holly with "Eye of the Tiger," complete with kung-fu moves. This leads to him viewing her as an enemy to be exterminated. Kevin meanwhile has been listening to the COPS theme music, leading to him stealing Carter's car to fight crime. Twice.
  • Sarcasm Failure: When Fargo wants to get out of dealing with Dr Parrish.
Larry: What would you like the reason to be?
Fargo: Uh, how 'bout cuz I hate his stupid face and I can't stand his whining?
    Larry: Right. Message sent.
  • Shout-Out: Zane references the Tardis.
  • Taking the Bullet: Jo does this for Carter. Thanks to Time Stands Still and Brainwashed and Crazy wackiness, she also happens to be the one that shot him in the first place. Thanks to Carter and the bullet being frozen in time, she has ample time to get a vest to block the bullet before taking it.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: After an episode of aggressive behaviour and a murder attempt from Fargo, Holly finally snaps and asks him what his problem is. He admits to being intimidated that she's there to investigate the rogue launch. She looks confused and tells him that's not why she's there at all; she's come to assess the FTL drive for use in a mission to Titan, with a $20 billion grant in the offing. Fargo and Zane are rendered speechless.
