"Eggman's new scheme" is the first episode of the first season of Battle Of The Multiverse.
This episode is a start of a Crossover series. It introduces SpongeBob, Flaky, Modern Sonic, and Classic Sonic trying to best Dr. Eggman.
"Eggman's new scheme" provides examples of:
- Antagonist Title: The episode is called Eggman's new scheme.
- Butt-Monkey: Handy is the only non-villainous character to die in this episode.
- Cruel and Unusual Death:
- Fliqpy gets sliced in half by Sonic.
- Handy is compressed into a robotic head.
- Eggman dies in a car crash.
- Debut Queue: Many stables, most significantly, SpongeBob, Sonic, Flaky, Kirby, Plankton, and Dr. Eggman.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Several of the filler townsfolk would later become prominent characters, including Kirby, Pop, and Petunia.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: Even for the standards of the prototype era, this episode was severely lacking. There was completely no audio, not even music. And the characters are represented by stock art.
- Of course, minor things too. For example, the characters are competent and more like their canon counterparts.
- Not to mention, direct story-telling is conveyed, as opposed to the plot being proceeded with various deaths. So, in other words, there were barely any deaths and most of the characters who appear in the episode survived, despite the majority of them being massive Cosmic Playthings.
- Also, this introduced Classic Sonic, a younger Sonic who quickly vanished after this episode.
- Establishing Series Moment: While a bit tame, this episode makes it pretty clear that this show follows the steps of Happy Tree Friends; Characters getting brutally killed. This is proudly demonstrated when Fliqpy of all characters is the first Toon who dies.
- Half the Man He Used to Be: Fliqpy's fate.
- Karmic Death: Fliqpy and Dr. Eggman.
- Laser-Guided Karma: Arranging an entire carnival just to get back at Sonic, Eggman thinks he's gotten the upperhand, only for the entirety of this stratagem to absolutely collapse onto itself. He drives off in an attempt to escape after his failure, but while taunting his arch-enemy, he crashes right into a wall, killing him.
- Oh, Crap!: Eggman's reaction to his invention of fusing Handy with a robot head failing.
- Too Dumb to Live: While flipping off the protagonists after they have foiled his scheme, he crashes his vehicle into a stone wall.
