Go To

Airdate: November 25, 2005

The kids in school receive gifts from their pen pals in International Studies class. Ed receives strange wolf-related items that awaken bad repressed memories from Rolf and he soon unleashes his fury on Ed.

"No Speak Da Ed" contains examples of:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: As soon as Rolf realizes that all the wolf-related items were sent to Ed by Gerta the Goatmilker, and he sees the Feather Duster of Tomfoolery as final proof, he falls to the ground laughing happily at having been played, despite all the traumatic memories he remembered.
  • Arch-Enemy: Rolf declares that the wolf-masked man who tried to steal his sheep to be this.
Rolf: The chinless Ed-boy is in league with Rolf's sworn enemy!
  • Batman Gambit: Gerta's prank on Rolf involved her sending Ed various wolf-related gifts and knowing that Rolf would react badly to them.
  • Berserk Button: The gifts that Ed receives from his pen pal constantly push Rolf's, due to being wolf-related.
  • Broken Record: When Rolf tortures Ed through the night, demanding he "talk", all Ed ever says is a happy "Hi Rolf!" before being dunked in oatmeal.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Even after Double D explains to Eddy that the gifts Ed has received have had an effect on Rolf and reawakened a traumatic memory, Eddy immediately taunts Rolf over this and mockingly asks what he is going to do to them while cracking jokes while laughing at him. This leads to Rolf capturing him and Double D and holding them hostage as well as he attempts to torture Ed.
  • Call-Back: When Eddy insults Rolf in his secret lair with "What's Wolfgang McHairyback gonna do to us, stick eels down our pants again?" This is a reference to Rolf's hairy back in "Take This Ed and Shove It" and the time Rolf put eels in his and the Eds' pants in "Dueling Eds."
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Rolf's sheep were hunted by a wolf-like poacher and the memory haunted him. Ed's gifts reawakened his memories and he believed Ed was associated with the poacher.
  • Death Glare: Rolf gives a scary one to Eddy when he mocks Rolf in his lair, then gives an even worse one to him and Double D when Eddy insults him after he tortures Ed all night and gets nothing.
  • Elaborate Underground Base: More of a lair than a base, but Rolf is revealed to have one when he kidnaps Ed. It goes deep into the Earth and is apparently where he keeps all his sheep for safety.
  • Flashback: For once, we actually get to see some of Rolf's childhood back in his home country. He was harassed by a mysterious wolf-headed villager who would steal his sheep, and had been traumatized ever since. This explains why he reacts so violently to Ed's wolf gifts.
  • The Ghost: Gerta the Goatmilker is referred to by Double D and Rolf but is never actually seen.
  • Interrogated for Nothing: Two-fold when Rolf tries to make Ed talk when he believes he's in league with his Arch-Enemy. Not only would Ed have no way of knowing that, but Rolf's method of torturing Ed, dunking him upside down in oatmeal, didn't bother him in the slightest.
  • I Warned You: After Eddy is thrown out of the Candy Store for trying to use Korean money, Double D tells him that he should've listened when he said it was worthless.
  • Karma Houdini: Rolf might have been a victim of Gerta’s prank but he still gets away with beating up Ed, kidnapping him and his friends and torturing him all night. At the end of the episode he even forcibly recruits the Eds to help him get revenge on Gerta by stuffing them in a suitcase and mailing them to her to shave her legs, ignoring Double D and Eddy’s protests.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Even if Ed's pen pal had been Rolf's Arch-Enemy, Ed wouldn't have know that, meaning that Rolf kidnapping him was for nothing either way.
  • No Sympathy: Eddy's response to learning how Rolf is suffering from traumatic memories due to the gifts Ed has received is to openly mock and insult him. This unfortunately gets him and Double D kidnapped as well.
  • Pity the Kidnapper: Rolf kidnaps Ed to torture him for information on the "wolf", but his tortures have no effect on Ed and by the end of it Rolf looks like the one who has been tortured.
  • Potty Emergency: At the end of the cartoon, when the Eds are in a suitcase, Ed tells the others he has to go to the bathroom, prompting a Big "NO!" from Eddy and Double D.
  • Schmuck Bait: Rolf captures Ed by luring him away with a chicken on a rope. Ed approaches the chicken to hug it, and is immediately kidnapped.
  • Troll: Gerta the Goatmilker. According to Rolf, she is famous for her jovial jests and sent Ed wolf-related gifts just to mess with Rolf.
  • Where the Hell Is Springfield?: While it's never revealed what country he's from, this episode pretty much confirms that Rolf and his family are from somewhere in Europe—in fact, it's implied that they're from Scandinavia (possibly Norway, since Rolf's old friend/rival, Greta, is apparently Norwegian).
  • Worthy Opponent: After Rolf tortures Ed all night for information and gets nothing except "Hi Rolf!", he finally admits that Ed is tough.
Rolf: (exhausted) The Ed-boy's fortitude is to be admired!
    Ed: (still going) Hi Rolf!
