Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 4 E 10 For The Ed By The Ed

Go To

Airdate: November 10th, 2003

After Plank saves Jimmy from the Kanker sisters, he and Jonny proclaim Plank to be a hero and the "King of the Cul-de-Sac". A jealous Eddy, believing the title should belong to him, demands an election, and the race is on to see who is the true King of the Cul-de-Sac.

"For the Ed, by the Ed" contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: If you want to win an election, try winning it the correct way. Political scandals and obnoxious gloating will get you nowhere…and they can backfire on you.
  • Agitated Item Stomping: Eddy takes his hat and jumps on it many times in frustration since the kids didn't give him the validation that he yearned for.
  • Batman Gambit: Downplayed—Eddy tries stuffing the ballot box with a bunch of votes for himself in an attempt to rig the election, but Double D had anticipated his friend's "shenanigans," and had swapped the official ballot box for a decoy, and tells Eddy "Only one vote per person," as he takes just one vote from Eddy.
  • Big Damn Heroes: When it looks like the Kankers would succeed in force feeding Jimmy a caterpillar, Plank comes out of nowhere and saves Jimmy.
  • Book Dumb: Eddy once again shows he needs to take his studies more seriously; he thinks kings are democratically elected officials, demands a recount despite only getting a single vote, and needs to count in his head for several moments before realizing Double D didn't vote for him, despite the fact that, again, he only got ONE vote.
  • Burping Contest: Ed and Eddy have one of these while emptying bottles of soda to pawn. After they urge Double D to join in, he initially seems incapable of letting out a single belch, but he later lets out a huge one during one of his sentences.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Plank vs the Kanker sisters for the former, yes really.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Eddy's attempt to discredit Plank to further his chances in the election doesn't work because not only does he forget that the kids still hate him for always scamming them and being a nuisance, but in fact pulling such an underhanded tactic makes him look worse in the election and gave the kids a further reason not to vote for him.
  • Eat That: The episode begins with the Kankers attempting to make Jimmy eat a caterpillar.
  • Election Day Episode: The whole plot of this episode revolves around an election on who should be "King of the Cul-de-sac."
  • Epic Fail:
    • Eddy lost the election to an inanimate board of wood.
    • Ed also tries joining in the "fight" between Eddy and Double D, only to unknowingly toss them out of the voting booth and literally beat up himself while still inside.
  • Exact Words: Eddy probably should have known better than to tell Ed to "get some dirt" on Plank, since Ed brings back a whole bag full of soil.
Eddy: THIS IS DIRT! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH THIS?! IT'S DIRT!
  • Hated by All: You can tell how much the kids hate Eddy when he receives only one vote in the election, which was his own vote.
  • Holier Than Thou: Double D claims he "had" to vote for Plank despite his friendship with Eddy, even though if he had voted for Eddy it wouldn't have helped him win. Eddy is understandably pissed and attacks Double D in rage.
  • Honor Before Reason: Edd reveals in the end that he had to vote for Plank, not getting the fact that even if he voted for Eddy, the latter would still lose anyway. So it really wasn't needed for him to vote for Plank anyway.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Showing Plank's dark secret was highly immoral and uncalled for, but Eddy does point out that the public has a right to know who they are voting for, which Kevin does admit (albeit, in a more sarcastic tone).
  • Landslide Election: Eddy only got one vote (his own), while Rolf voted for himself, Ed voted for the chocolate chip cookies that Double D made, and everyone else voted for Plank (including Double D himself) because they all hate Eddy (except Double D, who just has his limits, and Ed who likely just did it out of stupidity rather than malice).
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After the Kankers try to force feed Jimmy a caterpillar, Plank comes to Jimmy’s rescue and fights the Kankers leaving them horribly injured.
  • Literal-Minded: Played with. When Eddy told Ed to help him dig up some dirt on Plank, Ed took it to mean dig up Jonny's lawn. It turns out that Ed did what he wanted as he ended up digging up an incriminating photo that had been buried, but whether or not Ed was aware of this or just dug up the right spot by pure dumb luck is left unclear.
  • Nothing Personal: After Eddy discovers that Double D voted for Plank instead of him, Double D claims it was nothing personal and asks Eddy if he understands. Eddy however doesn't and attacks Double D, beating him up for betraying him.
  • Only Sane Man: Surprisingly, Rolf takes the role in the episode by lampshading many times on how Plank is just a piece of wood. This could be why he voted for himself instead of either candidate.
  • Pet the Dog: Ed gives the photo back to Jonny when he asks.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After Eddy loses the election and learns he only got one vote, he does some quick numbers and realizes that since Ed voted for the cookie that means Double D had to have voted for Plank. Eddy viciously attacks Double D for his betrayal.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: After hearing the story of how "a wooden board saved [Jimmy] from three evil witches and a creepy crawly", Rolf runs home screaming, "Mama! The fairy tale that haunts Rolf has come true!"
  • The Unreveal: Whatever was on the embarrassing photo of Plank isn't revealed. All that's shown are the reactions, among which are Kevin being impressed and Jimmy saying he'll never look at Plank the same way again. Only Rolf is unaffected, confusedly pointing out it's just a photo of a piece of wood.
  • Vote Early, Vote Often: In order to win, Eddy tried to stuff the ballot box with votes for himself. Fortunately, Double-D saw it coming and swapped out the official box with a decoy.
