"Eddy only wishes to eviscerate social order as we know it!"
After another scam attempt gone wrong, Double D and Eddy end up in an argument over following a 'keep off grass' rule sign, which eventually snowballs into Eddy convincing all the kids that rules don't matter and to do whatever they want, quickly descending the Cul-de-Sac into complete anarchy.
This episode contains the following tropes:
- Ambiguous Situation: After Eddy tears off the ticket to Edd's mattress, Double D calmly states that he wants to join in on the revelry. Did he say that because he was actually broken? Or was it a ploy to escape and tattle on the kids.
- Anarchy Is Chaos: Once Eddy convinces the kids that rules are for losers, the Cul-de-Sac starts descending into chaos shortly after, with Jimmy and Sarah setting up giant ice-cream hills, Kevin destroying others property and Jonny even ends up running around naked.
- An Aesop: Rules exist for a reason and whether you like them or not, breaking them will have consequences.
- Balloon Belly: Jimmy and Sarah get oversized bellies after sliding down a mountain of ice cream.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Ed accidentally dropping Double D's ant farm causes the latter to outright strangle him with his legs. Even Eddy looked legitimately scared.
- Brick Joke: The episode kicks off with Double D explaining the importance of following signs. In the end, the Eds use their own signs to try to get the passing kids to help them escape their cage.
- Chain of People: The kids form one to try and retrieve a basketball from wet cement.
- Cool and Unusual Punishment: Rolf is desperate to complete his chores as failure to do so will result in his banishment to... the cupboards.
- The Corrupter: Using compelling arguments and the promise of carefree fun, Eddy is able to convince everyone in the Cul-de-Sac to defy their parents and have fun however they want.
- Didn't Think This Through: Double D eventually manages to restore order to the Cul-de-Sac by calling all the kids parents, but it's only afterwards did he realize that the kids likely weren't gonna take kindly to that. He could have also just waited until everyone’s parents got home instead of announcing that he snitched on them, which could’ve saved his skin. He even lampshades it in the denouement, saying he doesn't know what he was thinking and his best guess is that everyone's disregard for rules drove him temporarily insane.
- Early-Installment Weirdness: Eddy attempts to keep the other kids from attacking Double D, even though the latter just called all their parents, including Eddy's. In later seasons Eddy would have boasted about "sockhead getting what was coming to him" and taken pleasure in Double D's violent fate if he would've done that.
- Filthy Fun: The kids turn the wet cement area into a pool/winter wonderland.
- Honor Before Reason: While Double D calling the kids' parents to inform them of their behavior seemed like the right thing to do to prevent the anarchy around the cul-de-sac, it wasn't the wisest choice for him to tell them about it out loud.
- The Hilarity of Hats: Edd is unable to free his hat from the light Eddy ties it to, so he wears a pair of pantyhose on his head for the final act of the episode.
- Horrible Judge of Character: You'd think the kids would refuse to listen to Eddy when he tries to convince them to break the rules, especially due to the fact that they were against it in the beginning and just decided to roll with it just like that without even thinking of the imminent consequences they're facing if they went along with Eddy's plan. What's more, is that the kids despise the Eds, so this just makes them listening to Eddy's words come off as incredibly idiotic.
- Laser-Guided Karma: For convincing everyone to disobey rules (Eddy and Ed) while getting them into trouble with their parents (Double D), the Eds are locked in a giant cage for an uncertain amount of time. The other kids will also get punished by their parents for disobeying the rules as well.
- Lawful Stupid: Double D doesn't seem to realize that actually telling the kids that he called their parents instead of just simply keeping silent about it wasn't the brightest decision he has made. It wouldn't have ended so badly for him (or the other two Eds for that matter) if he had just simply remained anonymous.
- Loophole Abuse: Ed manages to get around the keep off grass rule altogether by going under the grass.Double D: Well, I suppose technically Ed's not on the grass...
- Mass "Oh, Crap!": All the kids react this way after Double D happily explains that he tattled on them to their parents.
- Naked People Are Funny: Jonny takes advantage of the temporary chaos and disorder to run around in his birthday suit with only Plank to cover him.Jonny: Feel the wind, Plank!
- Never My Fault: The kids deal out punishment towards Double D along with the other two Eds for calling their parents, despite the fact that it was their fault they broke all those rules and were gonna face the consequences when their parents get home anyway. This doesn't even mention the fact that they were dumb enough to listen to Eddy despite knowing just how deceitful he can be.
- No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Double D phoning the kid's parents about their rule-breaking results in him receiving the same punishment the kids give out to the other two Eds. He even admits, in hindsight, having gone mad from the chaos of the Cul-de-Sac may have clouded his judgment on that call.
- Not So Above It All: Played With. Double D is the only kid who refused to break any of the rules instigated by society and parenthood. However, according to Kevin, he did break a rule that all kids know how to follow: don't squeal.
- Significant Wardrobe Shift: To show that he's now a lazy good-for-nothing like his friends, Rolf trades in his regular outfit for an Elvis themed costume.
- Shout-Out: At one point, Eddy tells Rolf that "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."
- Spontaneous Skeet Shooting: After Eddy encourages the kids to break their parents' rules, Kevin disposes of dirty dishes by and launching them with a trash bin lid and hitting them with a slingshot.
- The Stool Pigeon: Edd tells everyone's parents after deciding enough is enough. This results in everyone getting angry at him for being a squealer.
- The Un-Reveal: Double D's hat gets pulled off in this episode, and we don't get to see what's under it. Given all the Eds reaction to it though, apparently, it ain't pretty.Eddy: Geez Louise…
Ed: Cool.
Double D: (quickly puts his hat back on) If you say one word to anyone, I’ll never speak to you again! - Wet Cement Gag: The Cul-de-Sac kids are trying to get a basketball out of wet cement without stepping on it. Eddy comes along and steps right on the cement to encourage the kids to do the same. When he steps out, the cement has dried around his feet as blocks. Later, the kids are shown playing on the cement like it was snow, even making a cement snowman.
- With Us or Against Us: Eddy is able to sway Kevin in his favor by claiming that he lives to obey the rules like Double D. Not wanting to be associated with a dork, Kevin embraces the New World Disorder.
