"It's hypnotisin' time!"

Edd has just received a new psychology manual in the mail, and with it comes a hypnotizing pinwheel. Eddy decides to use this wheel to put the kids in the cul-de-sac in trances.

Tropes

  • Drunk with Power: A Played for Laughs example. When Ed has his turn with the hypnotizing pinwheel, he has Rolf become a giant man-eating noodle, then a bat, and finally a zombie, much to Eddy's horror. When Ed wants Rolf to become a scary fire-breathing lady monster, Eddy tells him to stop, since he's already been through enough abuse from the son of a shepherd, causing Ed to snap his fingers and turn Rolf back to normal.
Eddy: "Give me that!" [Takes the turban from Ed.] "Amateur."
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: This is one of the more flat-out bizarre episodes of the series. While later episodes are no stranger to Toon Physics and Rule of Funny, they're usually self-contained gags and the main plots are usually fairly grounded. This episode just centers entirely around Eddy hypnotizing the entire Cul-de-Sac with no issue.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: Ed's first attempt at hypnotizing Rolf tries to have him look into the pinwheel, causing Rolf to tell him he's crazy. Ed complains it's not working and has to be told by Eddy to actually spin it for the hypnosis effect to work properly. Ed does so, thanking Eddy for the advice and lets his overactive imagination run wild.
  • Hypno Fool: Pretty much every character to some extent. Special mention goes to Kevin and Sarah who Eddy forces to act like a monkey and frog, respectively.
  • Hypno Trinket: The hypnosis pinwheel, which the Eds use to control the kids in the Cul-de-Sac.
  • Karma Houdini: For the bus ride scam, the Eds get away with taking the other kids' money and leaving them on it as it crashes, despite Double D predicting it would eventually constitute a refund. Though the kids end up fine the next time we see them.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Eddy hypnotizes the kids of the Cul-De-Sac to be slaves, then the Kankers show up and hypnotize Eddy and his friends into being dogs.
  • Mind-Control Eyes: Whoever gets affected by the hypnosis pinwheel will get black and white spiral eyes like it, followed by Blank White Eyes once they receive an order.
  • Nobody Touches the Hair: Eddy tries to move Lee's bangs out of her eyes so he can hypnotize her. She responds by angrily grabbing him and shoving him away while screaming not to touch her hair.
  • No-Sell: The hypnosis pinwheel has no effect on Lee because of her bangs.
  • Vocal Evolution: This episode marks the start of Ed transitioning from his Surfer Dude accent to the Simpleton Voice he speaks with for the majority of the series.
