Recap / Duncanville S 1 E Sister Wife

Go To

Jack and Annie visit a 1980s-themed club on their anniversary; Jing makes Duncan marry her; Kimberly acts out for attention.

Tropes:

  • Adorably Precocious Child: Bradley, whose mother is a therapist, is brought in by Jing to give her and Duncan counseling.
  • The Cameo: ALF is the drummer on the band in the '80s club.
  • Can't Get in Trouble for Nuthin': Kimberly tries to get in trouble to get attention, but none of her attempts work. Kicking a police car? The officer only wants to know where she got her shoes to buy a pair for his niece. Shoplifting? The lady at the counter barely acknowledges it because the anti-theft detectors don't go off if you're a middle child trying to shoplift. She won’t even get kidnapped by the scary clown in the sewers!
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Annie apologizes and asks "too soon?" after her Bill Cosby impression draws attention toward her in the nightclub. However, since it's the 80's in there and everyone still loves him, she's Easily Forgiven.
  • The '80s: Jack and Annie visit an 80’s themed club for their anniversary.
  • Father, I Want to Marry My Brother: Jing makes Duncan marry her in a pretend ceremony. It then plays out as an Awful Wedded Life.
  • A Good, Old-Fashioned Paint Watching: Jack and Annie excitedly watch paint dry while they’re out running errands.
  • Hen Pecked Husband: Duncan turns into this after he and Jing have their mock wedding.
  • Noodle Incident: Jack apparently joined a cult on two separate occasions.
  • Primal Scene: Parodied. It at first seems like the kids walk in on Jack giving anal sex to Annie, but he's actually holding her out the window while she beats the dust off the rug.
  • Sham Wedding: Duncan and Jing have one.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Wimp Fight: Jack gets in a fight with some patrons at the club, but none of them are really into it, so they just flail around ineffectually. They only get hurt when ALF dog piles on them.
