Recap / Duck Tales S 1 E 52 Launchpads Civil War

Go To

When going to Virginia for an American Civil War reenactment, Launchpad encounters aged Union veterans who once served under his ancestor, who had lost a battle. Meanwhile, Doofus and the nephews learn that a businessman is exploiting the reenactments for financial gain. Launchpad works to avenge his family's honor by rallying the old veterans to a "rematch" of sorts against the reenactors.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Generation Xerox: Launchpad's ancestor Rhubarb not only looks like him (except for a mustache), but he also tended to mess things up.
  • Off the Rails: Launchpad is playing the part of his ancestor in a reenactment of a famous battle that his ancestor bungled. In the process, he comes across the disgraced troops his ancestor led and switches them into the reenactment so they can "defeat" the opposing side and get their dignity back.
  • Old Shame: In-Universe. The civil war soldiers see their loss as this, feeling too ashamed to return to civilization.
  • Running Gag: The elderly veterans keep bringing up how "That lousy, rotten, bungling polecat McQuack (gasp) lost us the Battle of Duck Ridge!"
  • The American Civil War
  • War Reenactors
