Tuffnut is eager to impress his visiting cousin, Gruffnut. But Ruffnut is suspicious of his real reasons for coming to Dragon's Edge.
Tropes:
- Automaton Dragon: Defied. Gruffnut treats the idea of stealing a dragon the same way we might treat stealing a bicycle — just climb on and go. It turns out a living creature with a fierce sense of loyalty to its owner actually won't let some stranger get on its back without putting up a fight.
- Broken Pedestal: Tuffnut looked up to Gruffnut all his life. He soon learns better after Gruffnut knocks Tuffnut out, steals his identity and tries to give his dragon to the dragon hunters.
- The Drifter: Ruffnut accuses Gruffnut of being this.
- Evil-Detecting Dog: The first character to realize that Gruffnut-in-disguise is not Tuffnut is Tuffnut's pet chicken, who apparently successfully warns several of the dragons.
- Large Ham Radio: Ruffnut and Tuffnut play this throughout the episode, waking up the other riders as a result.Tuffnut: Good morning, Dragon's Edge! It's Tuff...
Ruffnut: And Ruff...
Tuffnut: And Chicken...
Chicken:[Chicken clucks]
Ruffnut and Tuffnut: -in the mornings! - Messy Hair: Astrid has some rather furious bedhead, having been woken up early by Ruffnut and Tuffnut's morning forecasts. Heather is shocked.
- Mock Millionaire: Gruffnut, among his many claims, says that he had his own weight in gold before he lost it to a kraken while saving a boat of orphans.
- The Mole: Gruffnut. Of course.
- Out-of-Character Alert: Ruffnut knows that Gruffnut is posing as Tuffnut when he offers to let her hold Macey, something Tuffnut would never do.
- Save the Villain: Ruffnut and Tuffnut save Gruffnut from the dragon hunters because he's family, and because he still had Tuffnut's helmet.
- Something Only They Would Say: Hiccup initially doesn't buy that Tuffnut is who he says he is while dressed as Gruffnut, but quickly comes around when Tuffnut launches into a list of his many screwups.
- Trapped by Gambling Debts: Gruffnut betrays his family and tries to deliver one of their dragons to the Dragon Hunters because of this.
- Uncanny Family Resemblance: Gruffnut holds an uncanny resemblance to Tuffnut, so much so that he was able to temporarily fool everyone that he was Tuffnut, including Ruffnut. It does not last, though.
