Tired of being too small to do anything, Max wishes he could be bigger. He finds a wishing well that grants his wish, and Max grows giant, but he later regrets it.

One Big Wish:

  • An Aesop: Size doesn't matter, and being bigger isn't always better.
  • Aesop Amnesia: Despite having learned that being short has advantages in "A Tall Tale", Max is back to being tired of his small size here. Fortunately, after growing to gigantic size, he learns again that being big isn't everything and wishes to return to his normal height.
  • And Call Him "George": Before he wishes himself back to his normal size, giant Max picks up Ord and gives him a hug, much like Ord usually did to him when he was smaller. When Ord asks him why he did that, Max replies, "I just wanted to see how it felt to be the squisher instead of the one who gets squished."
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: After making a wish on the wishing well to be bigger, Max begins to grow until he's even bigger than Mungus the Giant.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Max wishes that he could be bigger. Thanks to a magic wishing fountain, his wish comes true. However, because he didn't give a specific size limit, he continued to grow. At first, he loves being bigger. But the wish quickly loses its novelty as he steadily grows too big to play with his friends, from outgrowing Ord to accidentally breaking their equipment.
  • Big Shadow, Little Creature: Max pranks Emmy into thinking the wish didn't cure his growing by using a desk lamp to make his shadow grow in this fashion.
  • Bigger Is Better: Max initially thinks this as he enjoys his new size. But as he keeps on growing and growing and growing, his continuously increasing size causes more and more problems and he realizes that being bigger isn't necessarily better.
  • Cute Giant: Max becomes this in this episode when he keeps growing bigger.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: Max encounters this problem twice with being big. The first time, when he tries to catch the ball while he is bigger than Ord, the ball lands near him and he has trouble seeing it because it is so tiny, and as a result he squishes it. The second time, when he grows even bigger than Mungus the Giant, he tries to put away the bats, only to accidentally break them. This is what causes him to realize that being big isn't as good as it may seem at first and makes him want to return to his normal size.
  • Exact Words: When he finds the wishing well, Max makes a wish to grow bigger. However, he doesn't specify a size limit, and as a result Max can't stop growing.
  • Giant's Droplet, Human's Shower: After Max becomes a giant and accidentally breaks the baseball bats, he cries in frustration. Ord pulls out an umbrella to shield Zak, Wheezie and himself from Max's tears.
  • Gone Horribly Right: When Max makes a wish in the wishing well to become bigger, the wish comes true. He does indeed get bigger and bigger, and it's possible if he didn't wish to return to his normal size, Max would have kept on growing endlessly.
  • Height Angst: Max is upset that he can't do certain things because he's smaller than Emmy and the dragon friends.
  • Literal Genie: Willie the Wishing Well grants Max's wish to become bigger, but since Max didn't exactly say how big he wanted to be, the wish caused him to grow into a giant.
  • Wishing Well: Max finds a talking walrus-shaped wishing well named Willie in this episode and makes a wish to be bigger, causing him to become gargantuan.
  • You Must Be This Tall to Ride: Briefly mentioned at the very beginning of this episode. After the kids come home from the carnival, Max expresses how upset he is that he wasn't tall enough to go on the roller coaster.
