Yeah, Freeza's just a bit nettled.
When it seems that Freeza is too powerful, Goku decides to pull out his secret weapon- the Spirit Bomb! But can he amass the needed energy before Krillin blurts it out?

These tropes aren't dead. K-thx-die.

  • Adapted Out: A filler scene in the anime has the remaining Z-Fighters on King Kai's planet take on (and defeat!) the Ginyu Force (sans Captain Ginyu). Here, the scene is cut so King Kai can personally send them all to Hell himself.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: The Ginyu Force, upon learning they have to fight against King Kai, make disparaging remarks about King Kai's size and shape. Guldo finishes it by saying "You're blue!"
  • Big "NO!": Gohan after Freeza shoots Piccolo.
  • Blatant Lies: When we first see Tien and Yamcha, the latter is referring to King Kai's training as "bogus." When King Kai shows up after the Ginyu Force wrecks his house wondering what's going on, Yamcha says that they were "just standing around, talking about your awesome training."
  • Brick Joke: The Stinger has one to the first episode of the season.
  • Call-Back:
    • Upon Recoome crashing into King Kai's planet, he says "Hello" to Bojack, who once again gives a "Yar!" in reply.
    • Krillin's inability to shut up when he is scared causes him to blurt out what Goku's doing to Freeza.
    • Right before Freeza is about to kill Goku, he tells Goku to tell Vegeta when they meet in the afterlife that he says "like a bitch."
    • Goku asks Piccolo to stall Freeza in the exact same way Piccolo asked him to stall Radditz. Piccolo is quick to take notice. "Did...did you just hold a grudge?"
    • Goku also hums the same song Piccolo did while charging the Spirit Bomb.
    • Freeza finally manages to hit Piccolo in the glubak.
    • Freeza tells Krillin the reason he's going to kill him is for cutting off his tail back in Episode 25.
    • Popo hinted that Krillin is not likely to survive this season. The Stinger of this has him declare he "called it".
  • Call-Forward: Yet another one to Bojack is made, as Recoome says hello to him immediately upon crash landing into King Kai's planet.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: King Kai completely destroys the Ginyu Force offscreen. The Ginyus are all booted off to hell as a result.
  • The Day the Music Lied: During the Cold Open, Gohan, upon noticing Freeza beating up a drained Goku, states they have to help him. Krillin seems to agree as "Super Dragon Soul"note  from the Dragon Ball Z Kai soundtrack begins playing, but then:
    Gohan: Really, Krillin?
    Krillin: (laughs) F*CK no!
  • Delusions of Eloquence: Goku uses several "smart" words he doesn't understand the meaning of while talking to Freeza. It just pisses Freeza off.
Freeza: THAT'S STUPID! YOU'RE STUPID! STOP BEING STUPID!
    Goku: Or...maybe I'm being rhetorical.
Freeza: NO!!! NO YOU'RE NOT! God, it's like you just try to use words you hear randomly to try and sound smarter!
Goku: Huh. Well now you're just acting transcendent.
    Freeza: Hrgh!
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: Everyone laughs at Goku's pun just after Freeza gets hit with the Spirit Bomb. It is quickly subverted when it's revealed that he didn't die.
  • False Reassurance: Upon Krillin reading the opening disclaimer, the producer tells him not to worry about his paycheck, they'll be sure to send it to his next of kin.
  • Literal Metaphor: King Kai tells the Ginyu Force that they can go straight to hell after they insult him. He means it literally, as he completely destroys them and punts them all to Hell.
  • Mood Whiplash: One moment, Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, and Krillin are celebrating Freeza's apparent death by the Spirit Bomb as happy music plays, laughing as Goku makes his Pun...then Freeza, out of nowhere, shows up on the ledge above them, says "By the way, not dead. 'Kay, thanks. Die," and shoots Piccolo.
  • Non Sequitur, *Thud*: Upon Goku being pulled out from the ocean by Piccolo, he can be heard muttering "Grandpa, I don't want any more baths today, I'm clean now."
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: The Ginyu Force are punted into Hell by King Kai himself, rather than his pupils, and it's implied to be a Curb-Stomp Battle. As no footage of that exists since it never happened in the original, all we see is Recoome getting in King Kai's face, and then the four of them crash land in the fountain behind Goz.
  • Oh, Crap!: Freeza, upon seeing that the Spirit Bomb is fully charged, is clearly scared. When it's crushing him later, he legitimately thinks he's about to die.
    • Krillin, and everyone else, when seeing Freeza still standing after hit with the Spirit Bomb.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Freeza still remembers Krillin cutting off his tail. He kills him shortly after shooting Piccolo.
  • Pun:
    • After Burter notes that Guldo was a bit quick to the trigger after immediately launching a tree at King Kai's house upon seeing Yamcha, Tien, and Chaotzu, Guldo guesses he must've lost his head after...losing his head.
    • When it looks like Freeza has been killed by the Spirit Bomb, Goku suggests he "suffered a bad case of...Freezer burn."
  • Putting on the Reich: HFIL finally gets a chance to really do this when the Ginyu Force arrives after getting knocked off King Kai's planet, falling into the Blood Fountain.
Goz: Mez! We have visitors! Prepare ze camps!
    • Later subverted by HFIL, as it turns out that he was talking about an actual camp used in rehabilitation.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Everyone thought Freeza is defeated thanks to the Spirit Bomb, until...
Freeza: By the way: Not dead. 'Kay, Thanks, DIE!
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: Krillin spends his last moments screaming in an extremely high pitch.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Special Guest: Neil Patrick Harris performs the "Om Nom Nom" sound effects as the Spirit Bomb swallows up Freeza's early attempt at a Death Ball.
  • Stealth Pun: At one point, Freeza suggests that he and Goku play a game of 20 Questions. From then until the end of the episode, twenty questions are asked in total.
  • Stock Audio Clip: The brief "yarrgh" from Bojack when Recoome crashes into King Kai's planet is recycled; no one new is credited for his voice.
  • Tempting Fate:
    • When King Kai tells the Ginyu Force to get off his planet and go to Hell, Recoome asks who's going to make them. Cut to the Ginyu Force falling into the Bloody Pond in front of Goz.
    • Freeza tells Goku that if he's really so horrible, may the wrath of God strike him down then and there. Immediately a Bolt of Divine Retribution comes out of nowhere to strike Freeza...to absolutely no effect. Freeza smirks and shouts up to the heavens: "Nice try, jackass! Next time, give it your A-game!"
    • After Freeza shoots Piccolo, Krillin says that for a moment, he thought that was going to be him. Freeza immediately tells Krillin that he's next.
  • Totally Radical: Yamcha refers to King Kai's training as "bogus." Tien immediately calls out Yamcha for saying "bogus."
  • Trivially Obvious: "If I had any single regret for the countless horrific events that have transpired in my wake, it's that I'm dying."

"CALLED IT!"

Goku misuses fancy words

Goku tries to sound smart by using words like "rhetorical" and "transcendent", but as Freeza points out, he doesn't actually know what they mean, so he just sounds even dumber.

How well does it match the trope?
