Season 1, Episode 19:
To Modernity
"Nature's bounty is generous. We want for nothing. The world was like this, well before human civilization. It belonged to no-one. The moment you and I were born, the old world hammered a message into our heads. This world is not yours, because there's not a single square centimeter of land on it that is not the property of some rich, old fool."
— Tsukasa
Tsukasa’s army attacks the village. Outmatched by the attackers, the Kingdom of Science have to rely on wits, cooperation and science to fend them off.
Feats of Science:
- The gas masks return.
Tropes:
- Call-Back: Suika lures the Tsukasa army to the acid lake — and its poison gas!
- Dumb Muscle: Hyoga looks down on his buff, mushy-brained minions.
- Easy Communication: Averted, hard - Senku's superweapon is radio.
- Eat the Rich: Tsukasa is afraid that, once revived, and empowered by weapons of science, they will take back control.
- Kick the Dog: Hyoga sacrifices three soldiers to test if the poison gas is another bluff. Two more than were needed, even for a sociopathic general. It might be revenge for how they treated him when he was first revived.
- Ludd Was Right: Tsukasa believes the world was better before private property and weapons of science.
- The Pawns Go First: Hyoga sacrifices three of his men to confirm that the poison gas is real.
- Rape, Pillage, and Burn: The PG version: burning.
- You Require More Vespene Gas: The Kingdom of Science can't make revival fluid or gunpowder, because they lack a source of nitric acid.
