Recap / Doom Patrol 2019 S 3 E 05 Dada Patrol

Go To

In the hopes of getting Laura to leave, the Doom Patrol reluctantly agrees to try and infiltrate the Sisterhood of Dada. Things quickly go awry.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Affably Evil: This is how The Fog comes off; she's incredibly charming and charismatic, and generously plies Kay with treats, but she is still part of the Sisterhood of Dada and their plans for the Eternal Flagellation.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: In order to join the Sisterhood, each applicant is required to answer a question - The Fog asks Jane who she is without Kay, Frenzy asks Vic why he is Cyborg, and Quiz asks Cliff what he is. Jane has no answer for who she is without Kay, while Vic can give only a trite and rehearsed answer for why he is Cyborg. Cliff is actually able to articulate what he is, but the question just reminds him that he may be dying and makes him depressed.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Sleepwalk has super-strength, but only while she's sleepwalking, which means that when she attacks Cliff, she accidentally sends him flying into Quiz's glass case, shattering it.
  • Deal with the Devil: The Fog offers to give Jane and Kay shelter in her subconscious, free from the rest of the Underground, in exchange for joining the Sisterhood.
  • Death Seeker: Under the Quiz's interrogation, Cliff admits that he spent years of his life hoping for death.
  • Downer Ending: The mission to infiltrate the Sisterhood of Dada is a failure, Larry finds his son with his mind scrambled, and Jane sees the Underground turn against her.
  • Face on a Milk Carton: A milk carton bearing the image of Isabel Feathers, the actress Laura DeMille knocked down a pit earlier in this season, is shown.
