Donkey Kong is forced to choose between spending the day with either his best friend Diddy, or his girlfriend Candy, and finds himself scheduled to do both. But this couldn't have come at a worst time- a recent rain has rusted Cranky's booby-trapped footbridge, and unless DK can get to new Trigger Barrels from the Barrelworks, there will be nothing to stop King K. Rool from stealing the Crystal Coconut!
Tropes:
- Fooled by the Sound: When King K. Rool and the Kremlings try to steal the Crystal Coconut from Cranky's cabin, Candy tries to stall them with Cranky's sound effects record. It initially works as they run to cover when they hear war sounds, but they realize it was a trick when the record switches to animal sounds.
- Friend Versus Lover: Diddy and Candy Kong get into a spat because they both want to spend time with DK. This leads to the Two-Timer Date below.
- Gone Horribly Right: When Bluster closes the Barrelworks for the weekend, DK takes it upon himself to use the assembly line to make his own Trigger Barrels. This results in hundreds of Trigger Barrels filling the factory.
- Mythology Gag: DK ends up trapped in a barrel, like he does in the games.
- Not Now, Kiddo: Diddy tries to tell Cranky that K. Rool is attacking his cabin, but Cranky doesn't listen as he continues explaining to DK how holograms work. Justified as Diddy's warning is somewhat garbled due to a bad connection.
- Shockingly Expensive Bill: After the Trigger Barrels arrive and the Kremlings are dealt with, DK presents Cranky with the bill for their construction and delivery. We don't see the amount, but given Cranky's expression and that DK unwittingly built several hundred barrels..
- Shout-Out: K. Rool says "I'll be back" like the Terminator.
- Two-Timer Date: DK tries to keep having lunch with Candy and watching movies with Diddy at the same time while also trying get Cranky the new Trigger Barrels. This results in a montage of him swinging back and forth through the jungle as he zips to and from Candy's luncheon and Diddy's movie marathon.
