Season 1, Episode 2:

The Target

Echo is hired to spend a day with an outdoorsman, Richard Connell, but their adventure takes a dark turn when Richard proceeds to bowhunt her, prompting Boyd to step up. Someone sends Ballard Echo's picture with her real name, Caroline, written on it.

Flashbacks show the events of three months ago, when Alpha attacked the L.A. Dollhouse, and Boyd Langton came on board to replace Echo's deceased handler.

Tropes:

  • Bad Liar: When Mellie greets Ballard in the hallway, she offers him leftover lasagna she just "happened" to have. Ballard points out leftovers means she made some for herself, and the lasagna clearly hasn't been eaten.
  • Hunting the Most Dangerous Game: Echo spends much of the episode running away from Richard.
  • Lock and Load: Implied. Boyd gives a gun to "Jenny" while asking her whether she knows how to use it. Her answer is that none of her brothers are Democrats, the subtext being that Republicans usually support the legality of owning fire weapons, so they are stereotyped as freely using them. As such, "Jenny's" brothers have taught her how to handle guns.
Boyd: You know how to use this?
"Jenny": Four brothers, none of them Democrats.
  • Shout-Out: Richard Connell (which turns ot to be an alias at the end of the episode) is named after the author of The Most Dangerous Game.
