Tropes

  • Chekhov's Gun: Garbage's bear claws, that he offer Kira, prove useful when the dogs learn about the emulicks' adaptive behavior.
  • Crush Filter: Nomi sees Kira In a rather flattering light when the latter frees Garbage.
  • Eating the Enemy: The Emulick is defeated by being turned into a bear claw. In the next scene, we see the Pluto's crew eating its remains.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Garbage exploits an emulick's adaptive behavior by feeding it one of his bear claws, turning it into a giant living creature made of pastries. The crew is later seen eating it on the ship.
  • Hypocrite: The M-Bark council has trouble processing that Kira, a fellow dog, was sent into space. They forget that every single one of them are dogs themselves.
  • I Choose to Stay: Played with. After believing no one tried to rescue her, and learning that Garbage's team simply found her by accident, Kira decides to rather stay on the hostile planet than return to the humans. Garbage convinces her join his team back at the M-Bark because of her wounds and offer her supplies.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Everyone when Pistachio Soup sentences Garbage to special training under a dog named Penelope. While the dog trainer may appear adorable, all but Kira have known her long enough that her very name sends shivers down their spines. Why that's the case is revealed next episode.
  • Meaningful Name: The Emulicks can take form of whatever they eat, which can make then as threatening as Kira discribes depending on the element. Their name is a mix of the words "emulate", or copy, and "lick", where they catch things with their tongues.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Kira repays Garbage for helping her by standing up for him at his court martial. However, Garbage has still blatantly disobeyed orders from last episode and Councilor Pistachio Soup has him undergo training to keep his Captain status.
  • Properly Paranoid: Happy already has it out for Garbage and believes he will try to disobey orders last episode. The moment he discovers Ed disguised as both Garbage and him, he calls for an emergency meeting and prepares to punish Garbage.
