Recap / Dinotrux S 03 E 05 Speed

Go To

Ty has been continually challenging Ton-Ton to races, hoping to one day beat him, despite Revvit's warnings that Ty's engine is built for power and not speed, and that he could damage something like his Master Cylinder, which without would cause Ty to continually accelerate out of control.

Having overheard all this, Skrap-It and D-Structs hatch a plan to deliberately sabotage Ty's Master Cylinder, leading to a race against time to try and fix Ty before he goes too fast to catch up to and either crashes or his engine fails.

Tropes:

  • Blatant Lies: After the Scraptools tell on Skrap-It that they went to enjoy the Dinotrux races, Skrap-It tries to come up with some valid reason for him to have been there, fortunately he remembers the Master Cylinder bit.
    D-Structs: Good work.
Skrap-It: What? Oh, thank you, thank you! I knew I'd come up with something- I mean, find something that will help!
  • Catapult to Glory: This episode's Build is a catapult to launch Revvit onto Ty's head for repairs.
  • Finishing Each Other's Sentences: Put on highlight here as Revvit and Ty are able to brainstorm together even while Ty is doing laps and can only speak a little bit each time he passes.
Revvit: Do you mean something we can use to...
    Ty:...shoot a reptool onto my...
Revvit: Head as you pass? Like Ton-Ton's truck bed only...
    Ty: ...way more precise!
    Revvit: Great idea, Ty!
    Ty: Back at you, Rev!
Skya: Those two really are in sync!
  • Here We Go Again!: Ty survives the experience promising not to race as much, and then immediately suggests a weight pushing competition instead.
  • Literal Metaphor: Ty comments that he felt like he was "on fire" in that last lap, unaware that his engine has literally caught fire.
  • Pet the Dog: After Skrap-It shows D-Structs that he has successfully taken a screw out of Ty's Master Cylinder, D-Structs wants to destroy the screw, but Skrap-It asks if he can keep it and D-Structs lets him.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Subverted this time, as the episode takes the time to explain that tipping Ty onto his side would cause his engine to accelerate even faster, drastically increasing the risk of engine failure.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To the film of the same name. Ty even buys time by finding a place where he can drive around in circles.
