Recap / Dinosaurs Lost E 07 Georgie Must Die

Go To

Earl, who dislikes television star Georgie the Hippo, inadvertently makes Baby cry, the situation made worse when he discovers a very long line to meet the TV star. When he gets into trouble while trying to please Baby, Earl makes a horrifying discovery about Georgie and is resolved to stop him once and for all.

  • Angry, Angry Hippos: Underneath Georgie the Hippo's cute and cuddly exterior lies a power-hungry Jerkass.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Georgie loved to entertain children....for the first ten minutes! Then became a power-hungry asshole after that.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Earl says to the viewers, “This is for all you parents at home”, before punching out Georgie.
  • Cast as a Mask: A variant; while Georgie keeps his costume on throughout the entire episode, his goofy and friendly Barney-esque voice is provided by regular series puppeteer Allan Trautman (who also provided the puppeteer work for Georgie's face), but when he speaks in his true Manipulative Bastard voice, it's provided by Edward Asner. Lampshaded by Earl when he hears Georgie's Evil Laugh in his true voice...
"Gee, that's not your normal laugh."
  • Cool Key: As a reward for locking Georgie up, the city gives Earl the key to the city. But, as Earl observes...
Earl: Lotta good this does me; there's no door to this city!
  • Depraved Kids' Show Host: Offscreen, Georgie hates kids and is only interested in taking their parent's money.
  • Evil Twin: Roy refers to the real Georgie as one when he and Earl duke it out on TV.
  • Huggy, Huggy Hippos: Subverted with Georgie. On camera, Georgie acts like a friendly and playful Manchild who loves to make children happy, but off-camera, he is really a Manipulative Bastard who only uses children's smiles for his own profits to make money and avoid taxes, and doesn't take kindly to impersonators.
  • Jail Bake: The parents who break Earl out of jail use a very stale baguette to break through the wall.
  • Jerkass: Georgie is very much one when the cameras aren't rolling.
  • Kids' Show Mascot Parody: This is actually the show's second time taking shots at Barney & Friends following Blarney, a more direct parody. Georgie even sings a song to the same tune of Barney's signature "I Love You" song.
  • La Résistance: Concerned parents helped Earl escape from prison and stop Georgie, complete with French accents and clothing.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Earl gives Georgie his just deserts live on camera before knocking his lights out. The end result is Georgie's empire crumbling and Earl being cleared of all charges and given the key to the city.
  • Longer-Than-Life Sentence: What Georgie wants to sentence Earl to over infringing on his likeness.
  • Music/Age Dissonance: While Georgie and Earl fight backstage, Roy entertains the kids by singing The Commodores' "Brick House".
  • Nice Character, Mean Actor: The entire premise, with Earl trying to expose Georgie for the Corrupt Corporate Executive he actually is.
  • Spot the Imposter: Briefly at the end, a rare case in which the imposter is the good guy.
  • Take That!: An episode-long one to Barney and the popularity surrounding both the character and his series.
  • Trash the Set: Earl and Georgie do this to the latter during their on-camera fight.
  • Voice Changeling: Earl can perfectly imitate Georgie's voice, making him realize he can impersonate Georgie fully to make his kid happy.
