Recap / Digimon Ghost Game E41 "Clown"

Go To

After attending the wandering circus "Pierre Dream Circus", Ruli snatches an invite to a VIP event from a mascot. Unfortunately, when she scans the QR code, several Digimon arrive next to Ruli's house and kidnaps Angoramon. To make things worse, Ruli and Hiro get themselves involved with an exceptional foe.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Piemon was one of the nastiest pieces of work that Tai and co. had to deal with in Digimon Adventure, being a Sadist who remorselessly disposes of his minions and enjoys torturing the Digidestined in various ways. In here, he's genuinely Affably Evil and willingly gives up his antics after Ruli wins him in his own game. His underlings are also more than willing to work alongside him and he never abuses them — him impaling them with his swords are per accordance to his bargain with Ruli.
  • Circus of Fear: Double Subverted. Piemon's usual shows are harmless circus acts, but his "special show" is a front for him to claim victims.
  • Degraded Boss: Piemon was one of the most definitive endgame bosses in Digimon Adventure. In here, he's one of the many Digimon Hiro and Ruli had to deal with.
  • First-Episode Twist: Unlike Vamdemon who spends half of the episode taking the form of a human, we do get a very clear shot of Piemon before the episode even starts, or even before we see him and his lackeys disguising as humans. All to let you know this is going to be bad news.
  • Out of Focus: Kiyoshiro and Jellymon are not present because they're going to a forum in Fukuoka.
  • Running Gag: It's the third time where Ruli falls for a Digimon-built deathtrap because she just can't refuse the premise of a nice party.
  • Schmuck Bait: An Opposummon sends out QR code cards for random children who attended Piemon's show. If they scan the QR code, Piemon's minions will abduct them in their doorsteps and they'll be forced to walk to rope under intimidation from Lynxmon and Mephismon. Piemon will add them into his deck of cards even if they reach the end.
  • The Unfought: Piemon himself, Tobucatmon and Opposummon never directly engage in battle. Justified in Piemon's case since Hiro most likely knew better than to just charge head-front against an opponent he can't deal with directly and alone.
