A child-birth class is taking place, and suddenly Bob Bare comes in and threatens to blow everyone up unless he finds out who has his baby. Turns out he and his wife had been undergoing fertility treatments, and found evidence that the doctor had given his sperm to some other woman. It's up to Mark to figure out what the fertility doctor was up to and how to neutralize the threat...
"Baby Boom" displays symptoms of the following tropes:
- Absence of Evidence: As expected, the evidence indicates that Dr. Adam Embry died of drowning in salt water; his lungs were full of it. However, the salt water in his lungs lacked the pollution which would be found in the bay, proving that this was not where he drowned.
- Adoption Is Not an Option: Bob is threatening to blow up the pre-natal care unit because he believes one of the expectant mothers is carrying his child. His wife reveals they've been trying for a child for years but he refuses to adopt because he will only accept "the fruit of his loins." At the end of the episode, it's revealed that he is the infertile one and the wife is perfectly able to have kids. When he suggests adoption, his wife slaps him.
- Asshole Victim: Dr. Adam Embry preferred financial gain for the hospital over ethical and honest fertility treatment for couples; he used his own sperm instead of the husbands', and while Bare's claims turn out to be incorrect, they are certainly in line with this doctor. And when his nurse reported him in for this, he caused her license to be revoked. And when Bare was threatening to kill his newer nurse and lover, along with women he'd helped get pregnant, he preferred to fake his own death and escape the country than help out.
- Bus Full of Innocents: Adam Bare held the child-birth class hostage for information that none of them had.
- Fake Alibi: Dr. Embry's nurse made it look like he died as a result of the sabotage to his car causing it to fall into the bay. She had an airtight alibi for this time, so there was no way she could be blamed for his death. However, he was actually murdered by her later in the evening, his body being left in the bay to be found.
- Faking the Dead: Dr. Embry faked his own death, informing one person who he expected to get help from. Instead, she killed him.
- Frame-Up: Dr. Embry sabotages his car while wearing a rabbit costume, thereby framing his old nurse whose job involves wearing such a costume. Subsequently, he causes the car to fall into the bay, and the authorities to believe his body was washed away.
