Recap / Diagnosis Murder S 3 E 5 Murder On The Run

Go To

Fitness guide Margie Karn is thrown ten stories off of the roof of her exercise studio. Her husband George is arrested and convicted, sentenced to 30 years. As fate would have it, a crash with his prison transport vehicle lands him in Community General, where he takes Mark hostage to escape. Mark, figuring a guilty man would flee instead of trying to clear his own name, decides he will help his captor one way or the next.

"Murder on the Run" displays symptoms of the following tropes:

  • Absence of Evidence: Mark figures out Delaney was Didi's killer by noticing that a picture of him investigating the crime scene had him not wearing his flag tie pin, and yet he was wearing it again in his brief news interview.
  • Clear My Name/Clear Their Name: George sets out on his mission to prove himself innocent of Margie's murder, and Mark soon picks up the baton.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: When his scheme is blown wide open near the end, Delaney attempts to take a swing at Steve with a backhand, but he gets subdued right afterwards.
  • Dirty Cop: Detective Mike Delaney, who figured out that Didi Harris killed Margie, squeezed in on her sex racket instead of arresting her, and left George to swing for the murder.
  • Disability Alibi: Mark rules out King Bridger as being Margie's killer, as the pain the man often has in his shoulder is the result of a torn rotator cuff, meaning there isn't a chance in Hell he could have thrown Margie off that roof.
  • Disney Villain Death: Margie was killed by being thrown off a ten story building.
  • Irony: On the side of the bus Mark, George, and Jesse later get on is a sign that says "Stop Violent Crime".
  • MacGyvering: Mark and Jesse craft a device to help George's lung inflate using a water bottle, the tubing of a stethoscope, and the tubing of a ball point pen.
  • Multi-Part Episode: This is season 3's 2-parter.
  • Previously on…: Surprisingly enough, Part 2 does not start with one
  • Roadside Surgery: Mark and Jesse have to treat George's punctured lung while on a moving train car.
  • She Knows Too Much:
    • When Margie discovered that Didi was running a sex ring out of the gym she managed for Margie, Didi killed her to shut her up.
    • Likewise, when it seemed people had figured out Didi was the killer, Delaney shot her dead to keep her from mentioning her silent partner.
  • Whatever Happened to the Mouse?: We never learn what illness Marguerite was suffering from.
  • Workout Fanservice: The first part starts with Margie stretching for her exercises while wearing tight workout clothes.
  • Wrongful Accusation Insurance: George escapes the authorities and takes a man hostage at gunpoint in his quest to prove his innocence, fortunately for him, his hostage, Mark, is sympathetic to George's plight, and refuses to co-operate with any attempt to charge George for this crime.
