Mark finds himself treating a young woman who has been hit by a car and suffering amnesia. Or at least, that's what he thinks.
The woman is perfectly fine. In fact, she's there on a mission. She is actually a mob hitwoman arriving on the day Senator Bassett is due for an operation at Community General do do what hitwomen do. Of course, Mark is no fool, and starts to suspect something, especially after one of the nurses is found dead, incidentally, by our Jane Doe...
"Amnesia" displays symptoms of the following tropes.
- And Starring: Belinda Bauer gets the special credit of the episode.
- Bait-and-Switch: The obvious conclusion to draw from the episode is that Amy is sneaking into CG to kill Senator Bassett. In fact, David Foster, the doctor operating on Bassett, is the real target.
- Bound and Gagged: Mark is tied into an office chair with his mouth taped shut and loaded into a moving truck after his cover is blown at Tony Gelson's house.
- Faking Amnesia: This is Amy's cover for getting into Community General, claiming it happening after she was hit by a car.
- He Knows Too Much:
- The whole point of Amy Westin sneaking into Community General is for her to murder Dr. David Foster, who was set to testify against Tony Gelson and is out of hiding to operate on Senator Bassett.
- Amy kills Sue Marlowe because during her time treating Tony Gelson, she recognized Amy as one of his "employees", and that just wouldn't do.
- Make It Look Like an Accident: "Jane Doe" kills Nurse Marlowe via a fall down the stairs to achieve this effect. Mark isn't fooled.
- Red Herring: Senator Bassett being operated on makes it seem like his murder is Amy's mission. In reality, she's actually after his surgeon.
- Shoe Phone: An associate of "Jane Doe" tries to sneak in a gun disguised as part of a crutch. It takes a couple tries, but he manages to pull it off.
- Staircase Tumble: Nurse Marlowe moves from nursing to the morgue this way.
- Wounded Gazelle Gambit: After murdering Nurse Marlowe, "Jane Doe" screams in fear of discovering the body.
