The Big Cheese provides examples of:

  • Cruel Twist Ending: Being only able to say "omelette du fromage" brings Dexter wealth, fame and popularity...but it also ends up destroying his lab.
  • Downer Ending:The episode ends with Dexter only able to say "Omlette du fromage" (possibly permanently) and locked out of his lab, which is then blown up completely while Dee Dee mocks him.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Despite the invention malfunction, it turns out there’s virtually nothing saying “omelette du fromage” won’t do—except the most important thing: get Dexter into his laboratory.
  • Kick the Dog: As if being unable to say anything else and being forced to watch his lab get blown up wasn't bad enough, Dee Dee rubs salt in the wound by singing, "That's all you can say!"
  • Men Don't Cry: Averted. Dexter bursts into tears when he realizes his lab and all his work are about to be vaporized and there's nothing he can do.
  • Pokémon Speak: when he attempted to use science to cheat on a French test by uploading his vocabulary phrases straight into his brain. The audiobook he was using became stuck on "Omelette du Fromage", and when he awoke in the morning that was all he could say for the remainder of the episode. At first those around him were swayed by his apparent class and sophistication, landing him popularity, money, and sponsorship deals, but it also rendered him unable to speak the password to access his lab, which caused it to blow up.

The Password is "Star Wars"

Before Genndy Tartakovsky was hired by George Lucas to create the Clone Wars cartoon, he was referencing Star Wars in his independent projects, including Dexter's Laboratory.
