Ryo watches as he wroughts Hell on Earth.

Akira: Ryo, how are you so calm? Tons of people who aren't demons are dying right now.
Ryo: Some demons have died, too. Akira, this is a war between demons and humans. And every war has casualties.

With the existence of demons now revealed, the world begins to fall into chaos. Koda is declared a fugitive, Akira and Miki's classmate Miko goes into hiding since she is a Devilman, martial law is declared, and lynch mobs terrorize those too weak to protect themselves. As Ryo continues to plot and scheme, Akira finds himself in a desperate struggle to protect Koda and Miko, fight the demons threatening humanity, and stop people from killing each other over blind panic and hatred.

  • Big Damn Heroes: The rapper gang saves Miki from a few mobsters who were about to beat her up.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Akira calls Ryo out on his callous attitude towards humanity's decline into paranoia and war, pointing out that he can't act in such a way if "[he] has human blood in [his] veins". As the next three episodes would prove, Akira is more correct than he would have wished to be.
    • There's also Ryo's sudden change in behavior when he rants to Akira about humanity, as it hints to his true colors, which only come to light in the finale.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: This trope occurs on both sides of the same argument. While Akira and Ryo are quarreling about humanity, Akira realizes that Ryo's too far gone to reason with. And when he leaves, Ryo realizes that Akira is too angry to be talked down.
  • Oh, Crap!: This is one of the two episodes where Ryo truly loses his cool. And this happens twice.
    • First is when Akira decides to find the other Devilmen, causing Ryo to inadvertently reveal that he didn't make Akira a Devilman to fight demons.
    • The second is when he sees a huge ball of light engulf half the Earth and kill all the demons within its vicinity. And this is far more notable, since Ryo ends up screaming and crouching on the ground in fear.
  • Pet the Dog: While Ryo is indifferent to the humans' moral and societal atrophy and is even looking forward to the end result, after he and Akira have a falling out, he quietly wishes for Akira to stay safe after the latter leaves.
  • Tranquil Fury: Zigzagged. This trope is Akira's reaction when he realizes that Ryo's too far gone to reason with, as he quietly states his intentions to leave. Then when Ryo tries to stop him, Akira drops the tranquil bit and shows just how angry he is.
    Akira: [calmly] It's over, Ryo.
    Ryo: Wait, Akira—
Akira: GET OUT OF MY WAY, RYO!
