Deus Ex Universe: Hard Line

Alejandra "Alex" Vega is attacked by a horde of police officers on the streets of Prague. After beating several of them into unconsciousness, it takes another four officers just to knock her out. It is revealed soon after that Vega got herself intentionally caught so she could be transported to a secret police holding facility for augs.

Upon blacking out in the transport vehicle, she wakes up soon after in a jail cell with an inhibitor chip on her, which prevents her from using most of her augs. As she gets accustomed to her surroundings, she realizes that other augs have been imprisoned as well in a bombed-out police station that is now being used by the cops to catch and strip augments of their mechanical parts. She flashes back to an incident involving Ben Saxon, who first put her in contact with Janus after they came back from Australia.

Vega also learns that the prisoner across the row from her is named Ivan, and that he was caught two nights earlier. They begin to argue about whether or not augs have the right to violently demonstrate against the police, while she remembers that Janus introduced himself to her by showing how Crazy-Prepared he was, and how Janus put her in touch with Garvin Quinn.

Several cops arrive and question Alex about her identity. She truthfully explains that she's working as a cargo pilot for Lebedev Global, but they refuse to believe her and drag her towards an operating room. After glimpsing a number of cops who aren't wearing helmets but quickly cover up upon realizing she's seen their faces, she reboots her infolink implant and she is able to access her subneural radio. She is able to hear the cops chatting on a backline about their connection to the Dvali crime family and realizes that they're planning to harvest all of the prisoners for parts. After trying and failing to reach Janus, Alex attempts to break free and briefly gets away before the cops catch up and beat her into unconsciousness again.

She remembers in a dream that Quinn had asked her to fly him to Detroit to recruit Adam Jensen for the Juggernaut Collective. Quinn stresses that Adam was a lot like her in many respects, and that they are both committed and driven people. He states that working with the Juggernaut Collective will allow them to make a difference in the world.

Vega wakes up in the present to find herself being dragged along, but the cop who is dragging her is being distracted by Ivan, who is yelling at him through the bars. Vega uses the distraction to knock the cop out while Ivan grabs a nearby cop through the bars and holds him while Alex takes him out as well. She uses a device on the cop's belt to disable the inhibitor chip and free Ivan from his cell, then says that they need to run. Alex refuses to leave until they rescue the other prisoners, and unlocks all of the cell doors before attempting to flee through a nearby parking garage.

As they attempt to escape, a horde of cops appear at the only open gate and block the way before beginning to fire. As everyone hides behind vehicles, Janus calls Alex and reveals that help is on its way. He asks her to open a nearby gate that isn't accessible remotely so he can get inside. Under heavy fire, Alex uses her Glass Shield to run and activate the gate. After doing so, a group of sentry drones flies through the gate, then suddenly turns and incapacitates the cops with a barrage of taser darts. Ivan goes to execute the cop that previously arrested him, but Alex convinces him not to, saying that she got herself caught so she could rescue the other Augs. Despite this, Ivan tells her that a peaceful solution won't work before storming off.

The following day, Vega goes to meet with Janus, who chastizes her for taking an unnecessary risk and that the prisoners weren't worth the trouble. Vega counters by saying that it's important to get small victories when they can, and that acting solely to fight a global threat makes Janus no different than the Illuminati. Janus apologizes and says that she's right, and mentions that the corrupt cops' body camera footage has been leaked to the press, ensuring that the police ring will be shut down for good.

When Alex asks what her next assignment is, Adam comes over to greet her...
