With the path to the Pale Heart of the Traveler finally opened and the Final Shape bearing down on them, the Coalition makes one last effort to face the Witness and end the War of Light and Dark.
- All Your Powers Combined: As shown in the gameplay trailer, entering the Traveler unlocks a sixth element for the Guardians, Prismatic, which allows them to mix and match powers from both the Light and the Darkness to create a custom subclass.
- Back from the Dead: Cayde-6, killed all the way back in Forsaken, is discovered to be alive inside the Pale Heart through unknown means.
- Book Ends: The Tagline for the expansion is Make Your Own Fate, which references the line that would appear on screen when Guardians entered the final phase of the Final Battle with Atheon in the very first raid in the franchise, Guardians make their own fate.
- Continuity Cavalcade:
- The announcement trailer interspaces Ikora's speech with Guardians fighting Savathun and Nezarec, and later fighting alongside Caiatl and Mithraks.
- The reveal trailer has flashbacks going all the way back to the first game, as it shows the Young Wolf's Ghost resurrecting them in the Cosmodrome and, later, the Young Wolf assaulting the Vault of Glass. Additionally, a Warlock wearing the Thunderhead armor from Lightfall is among the Guardians to challenge the Witness, while an entire fireteam is shown earlier wearing the Veritas armor from Witch Queen, along with a Titan wearing the Exile armor from Trials of Osiris and a Hunter wearing the Iron Companion armor.
- Grand Finale: While not necessarily the end of the franchise, this expansion and its episodes will conclude the Saga of Light and Dark started in the original Destiny.
- Last Episode, New Character: The final conflict between Light and Dark sees the arrival of the Dread, the personal army of The Witness. Based upon the origins of the Tormentors and the Subjugators, they seem to be clones of the various Disciples of the Witness.
