President Kirkman makes the decision to send a team of Navy SEALs on a perilous mission into Algeria to apprehend Majid Nassar. Agent Wells continues to investigate Peter MacLeish's activities on the night of the Capitol bombing. Alex Kirkman deals with allegations that Leo Kirkman may or may not be Tom's biological son.


Tropes in this episode:

  • Hard Truth Aesop: When Tom blames himself for Clarkson's death, Alex tells him that casualties are inevitable and that they will always happen, no matter what
    Alex: Tom, you took the country to war today because you thought it was the right decision. Casualties are inevitable.
  • Heroic Sacrifice:
    • American informant Sammy Sarafian is killed early in the episode, after alerting the U.S. government to Majid Nassar's whereabouts.
    • Clarkson pulls one of these to save a group of children being held hostage as human shields. As a result, the mission is a success and Majid Nassar is apprehended alive.
  • Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: It's revealed that Leo might not be President Kirkman's biological son.
  • Retirony: Averted, but it is the team's commander who ends up dying in the mission.
  • Ripped from the Headlines: The SEAL team's mission has a lot of similarities to the death of Osama bin Laden.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Majid Nassar and his associates hold a bunch of children as human shields. When they try to shoot them, Commander Clarkson sacrifices his life to save the children.
