Sorbert (Chapter 11)

"Snacks" contains the following tropes:

Treasure bug nest jam, pearl centipede skewers, coin bug crackers
  • And Now for Someone Completely Different: Before eventually moving focus back to the main party, the story initially showcases a young adventurer named Kabru alongside his party.
  • Big "NO!": Marcille screams this after she sees Senshi prepare the insects for their next dungeon dish.
  • Continuity Nod: The mollusk inhabiting Laios's sword warns him about the treasure insects.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: No one laughs at Kabru when he makes a joke about party members eating each other to stay alive.
  • Gilligan Cut: After striking it rich by finding a treasure box on a zombie, Kabru tells his team that they'll go back to the surface to celebrate. Cut to Chilchuck and friends finding them dead on the floor.
  • Humble Hero: Rather then bragging about the idea of killing the Mad Mage, Kabru would rather let his actions display his character instead of his words.
  • Light 'em Up: The sight of a necklace worm causes Marcille to cast a stunning light spell that neutralizes the pretty pests.
  • Mimic Species: The Treasure Insects take the form of various beautiful treasures (like coins, pearl necklaces etc.) to entice potential adventurers into lowering their defenses so they can be attacked.
  • Now You Tell Me: Senshi briefly points out that there are certain coins that can't be eaten, so Chilchuck decides to chuck them into a dark abyss, believing them to be inedible treasure insects. As he does, Senshi explains that those coins are real treasure.
  • Tempting Fate: Kabru gets a big head when he and his party find a treasure box, believing that their luck is changing for the better. Not even a minute later, they are shown unconscious on the floor.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Chilchuck says this as he sees Senshi prepare the treasure insects for subsistence.

"Sorbet" contains the following tropes:

Exorcism sorbet
  • Always Someone Better: Marcille is annoyed when Laios calls Falin's magic "simple", saying that in fact it was quite advanced and better at dealing with spirits than Marcille's more destructive magic.
  • Demonic Possession: The ghosts who inhabit the dungeons are able to possess corpses of travelers, turning them into zombies. They can also drain living travelers of their energy until they die.
  • Drama-Preserving Handicap: Laios discusses with his friends on how strong Falin is and how they always relied on her help throughout their adventures. He even comments that their current adventures would have gone much easier if she was still around. It's because of this that he decides to make more of an effort to do better.
  • Flashback: While thinking about Falin, the scene cuts to the past where she tended to her party and exorcised a zombie using The Power of Love.
  • Holy Water: Senshi creates his own holy water using ingredients that are traditionally known to ward off evil spirits or to appease the supernatural.
  • Innocently Insensitive: As the group is enjoying their ice cream, Laios comments on how they wouldn't be enjoying such wonderful sorbet if Falin wasn't eaten by the Red Dragon. Marcille and Chilchuck are quick to point out how insensitive that sounds.
  • Mood Whiplash: In what appears to be his final moments before death, Laios imagines the last time he saw his sister and tried to reach out to her. Just before they can touch, "Falin" gets hit in the face with Senshi's holy water concoction.
  • Near-Death Experience: The party minus Senshi come close to succumbing to the grim possession of the ghosts.
