A movie version of "Kingdom Scrolls" has been announced, with Vince Vaughn in the role, but Meg and Nicky are not happy about it. Russell makes a new friend online...and invites him over in real life.

Tropes:

  • Chekhov's Gun: Russell makes a friend online called "MyMumDiedYesterday", which the others generally ignore as a silly username, but Russell takes it seriously until he's told not to by Meg. When he asks him to visit him in real life, the user (a 14 year old!) travels from Switzerland to England because, as it happens, his mum really did die yesterday.
  • Brick Joke: Meg mentions to the girl at the start that she shat in a bucket once while gaming, and gets the obvious reaction one would expect; later on Meg mentions it off-handedly, and Nicky considers it an awesome feat.
  • No True Scotsman: The starting gag has Meg come across someone wearing Nerd Glasses, gamer apparel and trinkets, and asks various gaming related questions to prove their worth, such as what was the last game they completed (and emulation save state's don't count, apparently).
  • Pædo Hunt: When Russell inadvertenly invites over a Swedish 14 year old boy he met online, Meg and Nicky constantly joke about this and Russell (again, unknowingly) doing suspicious actions that could be seen as grooming them.
  • Questionable Casting: In-Universe. Meg and Nicky get very angry at Vince Vaughn being in the lead role of an upcoming Kingdom Scrolls movie. A good chunk of the episode is dedicated to protesting this in-game with many players Waving Signs Around. They display the same reaction when Usman mentions that Paul Rudd has been cast instead.
  • Shown Their Work:
    • The opening has Meg rattle off various accomplishments gamers should be proud of, and when asking a woman about what the last game she completed was, she adds that emulating an old game and using save states to fully beat it doesn't count; this is a genuine Berserk Button for many emulation enthusiasts, and a lot of forums debate to this day about beating older games with "the intended" experience, versus using Save states, which detractors consider cheating at worst.
    • The bit about the petition for Vince's removal from the Kingdom Scrolls' movie requiring 20,000 signatures in order to be talked about in the House of Commons is genuine. Although why the House of Commons would talk about such non-political matters is never mentioned.
    • Meg goes on a tirade about Alison not caring about the casting of the lead in the Kingdom Scrolls movie, and Meg cites she said nothing with Ghost in the Shell (2017) (featuring Scarlett Johansson, often cited as a bizarre casting choice by western audiences), and then mentions Fantastic Four (2015) (which again, was criticised for its strange casting choices, among many other things).
