Tropes:

  • Bread, Eggs, Breaded Eggs: In the medieval-style movie, Courtney (as the princess), declares that she is not a prize to be won. Unless you're hot. Or rich. Or hot and rich.
  • Broken Pedestal: Norma doesn't want to escape the television world at first, because it means confronting the fact that Pauline is a bad person.
  • Crosscast Role: In-Universe, while movie-hopping, female Norma gets cast in a role originally played by man at least once (Sir Spheroid, possibly Alligator Anderson).
  • Dead Hat Shot: Parodied when Barney, Courtney, and Pugsley ride off into the sunset, with Barney's character's hat, who gets "killed" getting blown onto the ground.
  • Deal with the Devil: Ironically, the devil in this situation is not the demon, but the ghost. Pauline offers to help Courtney get onto the elevator in exchange for using the sealing spell to bind her to a new host. Courtney gladly accepts.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: While playing along with his role in the movie Dynamite Doris, Barney recalls that what happens next is the sheriff gets shot. Then the bartender (played by Courtney) addresses him as sheriff. Barney can only groan as it sinks in.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: In the medieval-style movie, Pauline plays the role of a presumably tyrannical queen.
  • He Knows Too Much: Barney, Pugsley, and Norma end up banned from the park after Pauline turns everyone against them so that they won't reveal the truth about her possessing her impersonators.
  • The Reveal: Pauline died while filming a life insurance advert, but possessed her stunt double Barborah. She's been possessing other impersonators since then.
  • Supernaturally-Validated Trans Person: Downplayed, but in all of the Pauline Phoenix movies and shows the group gets stuck in, Barney always gets cast in male roles (as far as we see, at least).
  • Trapped in TV Land: Pugsley, Barney, Courtney, and Norma find themselves in a world of Pauline's shows and movies, initially playing the roles of various characters there before waking up (Pugsley wakes up on his own, then he wakes Barney who soon wakes Courtney). It turns out that Norma was aware from the start, but she doesn't want to return to the real world because it means facing the truth about Pauline.
  • Traumatic Haircut: Barney does not take it well when Norma cuts his hair with her sword while she is in the role of a knight.
