Recap / Darkwing Duck S 1 E 53 Inside Binkies Brain

Go To

Following a bang on the head from a bowling ball, Binkie Muddlefoot's 'inner hero' escapes, which causes her to become the Canardian Guardian, Champion of Safety. Unfortunately, her efforts to make things safe around the city get in the way of Darkwing stopping Megavolt's latest scheme.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Anticlimax: Deliberately invoked and Played for Laughs. After previous episodes hyped Dr. Slug up as the most dangerous villain in St. Canard, he finally makes his grand debut as an Ax-Crazy maniac who manages to put Darkwing on the ropes...only for the episode to cut away from that and go into a completely unrelated story.
  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: When Darkwing and Launchpad enter Darkwing's brain, it's shown that while Darkwing's 'inner hero' is fairly small, his ego is enormous. But this is a guy who puts his own life in danger for those he loves on a regular basis, adopted a little girl who desperately needed a father who understood her, and he even puts up with his royally annoying neighbors, Quackerware and all.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of the episode, Herb gets hit on the head by the same bowling ball as Binkie and starts to dance all over the place. Darkwing refers to it as "The Case of the Dancing Dimwit".
  • Hero with an F in Good: Binkie's heroic persona, the Canardian Guardian, makes it her mission to improve the safety of the city from top to bottom. The problem though is that all her efforts end up endangering the people she's purporting to help, and she's more focused on safety-proofing everything than stopping bad guys from causing trouble, causing her to repeatedly mess things up for Darkwing.
  • The Good Guys Always Win:
Megavolt: That's the trouble with being a villain. The hero always has to win!
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: While narrating the episode, Darkwing and Launchpad take a look inside Binkie, Megavolt and Darkwing's brains.
  • Narrator: Darkwing narrates the episode as an Interactive Narrator, to the point of cutting away from the action from the main plot at several points.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Binkie Muddlefoot gets hit in the head and temporarily becomes "The Canardian Guardian, Champion Of Safety". Though half the things she tried to do to make things safe ended up making things hilariously worse.
