"Small In Size: Large In Terror!"

Produced 2005, aired in U.S. on 1/27/06

Production order: 31 (2-11)

It's Big Test time at Casper High again — this time, a fitness test where the students' performance reflects more on the school than on them. Which is why Tetslaff assigns Sam and Dash to help Tucker and Danny train for the upcoming event. Danny barely has time to scoff at the need to go through this farce, however, before he, Dash, and Skulker accidentally get zapped by his dad's latest invention — the Fenton Crammer, which shrinks them all down to the size of bugs while draining the 2 ghosts' powers. Now Danny, while losing more and more power, is on the run with one of his least favorite people on the planet from a hunter in a perfectly functioning battle suit through the Death Course his giant house has now become. This is just not his day.

This episode provides examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: The only episode in the series where Dash is given more focus.
  • Bolivian Army Ending: Skulker remains shrunken and trapped in an ice cube at the end of episode, only able to watch in horror as Jack prepares to drink a root beer that the frozen Skulker is floating in. How Skulker escaped Jack’s stomach and returned to his normal size by his next appearance is never shown or elaborated on.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Both Danny and Skulker gradually lose their ghost powers. (Unfortunately for Danny, Skulker's weapons and armor are unaffected.)
  • The Cake Is a Lie: The PDA Sam used to lure Tucker around town was a fake made of cardboard.
  • De-power: Danny and Skulker both start losing their ghost powers, due to getting zapped by the Fenton Crammer. However, Skulker’s suit and its weapons still work perfectly.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: After Danny once again defeats Skulker, he mockingly tells him he should learn to rely on his natural abilities more instead of always fighting with robot suits and weapons. Skulker responds to this by making an even stronger suit and going on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge against Danny.
  • Eaten Alive: Implied. At the end of the episode, Skulker was still shrunk and stuck inside an ice cube inside Jack's drink.
  • Fanboy: Dash is one for Danny Phantom. When Danny comes to his rescue while Skulker is attacking him, Dash says that meeting Danny would be really cool if he wasn’t so terrified.
  • For the Evulz: After returning to normal size, Dash suggests to Danny Phantom that they give Danny Fenton a swirlie “just for giggles”.
  • Hidden Depths: Subverted with Dash. While he and Danny work together to evade Skulker and return to normal size, Dash keeps cowering in terror and whining about being "puny", then grows a backbone when Danny (Phantom) asks to be his "fitness buddy". In the end, when they finally return to normal size, Danny believes that Dash may be something more than just a bully... but then Dash suggests that they stick Danny Fenton's head in the toilet "just for giggles". Naturally, Danny is unamused and shrinks the Jerk Jock again.
  • I Heard That: After Jack leaves the room, taking a pizza with him, Jazz makes a joke about him eating too much and she and Maddie both laugh at the joke. Jack then angrily shouts this in response.
  • Ironic Echo: Danny mockingly tells Skulker that he’s powerless without his suit and should learn to rely on his natural abilities. After the two of them (and Dash) are shrunk and realize their ghost powers are gone but Skulker's suit still works, Skulker gleefully throws the taunt back in Danny's face.
Skulker: Maybe you need to learn to rely on your natural abilities.
Danny: Will you just let it go?!
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Dash calls Danny Fenton “Fen-turd” and suggests to Danny Phantom that they should go stuff Fenton’s head in a toilet “just for giggles”. Danny then immediately shrinks Dash with the Fenton Crammer to teach him a lesson.
  • Male Gaze: The writers manage to contrive a plot-relevant reason to get in a close-up, slow-motion shot of a sweating, panting Jazz.
  • Master of Delusion: The more power Danny Phantom loses, the more he transforms into Danny Fenton. Eventually, the only differences from his human appearance are a black t-shirt, green eyes, and half-white hair. Dash never sees a resemblance to someone he knows.
Danny: I'm one makeover away from blowing my secret identity! Good thing Dash is a total moron.
  • Mundane Utility: Jazz uses her parents' virtual reality battle training helmet for exercise.
Jazz: Virtual ghost hunting is the perfect way to keep my cardio up.
  • Power Nullifier: In addition to shrinking ghosts, the Fenton Crammer also causes them to slowly lose their powers.
  • Reverse the Polarity: Fortunately, the Fenton Crammer has a reverse switch. (For what purpose is anyone's guess.)
  • Shrink Ray: The Fenton Crammer shrinks anything it hits to microscopic size.
  • Shout-Out: Dash's comment regarding the mouse hole references Tom and Jerry, where Jerry the mouse often furnishes his mouse hole like a comfy mouse-size house.
Dash: What kinda mouse hole is this? Where's the matchbox sofa and the coffee table made from a spool of thread?
Danny: You watch way too many cartoons.
  • Swirlie: Dash suggests to Danny Phantom that they give one of these to Danny Fenton after they return to normal size.
  • This Is Reality: Dash expected a mousehole to look like something from Tom and Jerry. Danny comments that Dash watches too many cartoons.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: Meanwhile, Sam has tricked Tucker into chasing her all over town by pretending to have a new model of a PDA that hasn't hit the market yet.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To the film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and The Real Ghostbusters episode "Short Stuff."
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Dash believes that the other side of a mouse hole would look the way they do in cartoons, before he goes through one and learns otherwise.
  • You Watch Too Much X:
Dash: What kinda mouse hole is this? Where's the matchbox sofa and the coffee table made from a spool of thread?
Danny: You watch way too many cartoons.
