"Beware The Twisted Sister!"

Produced 2005, aired in U.S. on 12/9/05

Production order: 29 (2-9)

Now that Danny knows that Jazz knows his secret, she tries taking a more active role in Team Phantom. Not very successfully. Her greatest achievement is managing to somehow trap Danny in his own thermos 3 times in 1 night. When Danny finally snaps and tells her to stay out of his life, she decides to prove she can help him by figuring out what Vlad's latest scheme is... which leads to Vlad throwing the two siblings in a gladiator-style arena.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Brain Bleach: Jazz's reaction to finding pictures of her mother on Vlad's computer.
Jazz: Oh, gross! I will never be able to unsee this!
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Danny spends the first half of the episode being unable to tell Jazz that he doesn’t want her help. First he tries but is interrupted by their parents, then after that he stops trying and just avoids her (even hiding from her in the janitor's closet). This results in him bottling up his emotions until Jazz breaks into his computer to get notes on the ghosts he fights to “help”. Causing him to snap at Jazz with extremely hurtful words and send his sister off crying.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Ecto-Skeleton Vlad stole in "Reign Storm" returns.
  • Compressed Vice: The conflict of the episode relies on Jazz being a completely incompetent ghost hunter, despite multiple previous episodes ("My Brother's Keeper", "The Ultimate Enemy", and especially "Maternal Instincts") demonstrating her prowess at fighting ghosts. She may have been trying too hard since she wants to be involved.
  • Fake Defector: This is Jazz's plan for figuring out what Vlad is up to. Judging by his sarcastic, suspicious attitude throughout the episode, she wasn't fooling anyone.
  • Fridge Horror: Vlad injects Jazz with nanobots that he can activate to kill her. At least one famous fan fic has run with the plot point that, while we see Danny get the remote control away from him, we never see them get rid of the nanobots themselves. What if Jazz still has them inside her? What if there are other ways to control them...?
  • Garbage Hideout Danny hid himself in a trash can in the janitor's closet in order to get away from Jazz. It fails because Danny realized Jazz hacked into his ghost files and revealed himself. Unfortunately, this leads to Danny exploding on Jazz.
Danny: Hide me! [Dives into a trash can and pokes his head out. Jazz enters the janitor's closet and shows Sam and Tucker what is on screen. Danny ducks back into the trash can.]
Jazz: Cool secret meeting place. So I've pieced it all together. Ghost X is clearly using the technology he stole to build some kind of [Danny pops his head up again.] super weapon. So, I compiled a list of his known associates.
Danny: [Stands up in the trash can.] Wait. Where'd you get this?
  • Giver of Lame Names: Jazz comes up with some not so creative names for the ghosts. Ghost X for Skulker, Lunchabelle for the Lunch Lady, Friendly Fiend for Klemper and Crate Creep for the Box Ghost.
  • If You're So Evil, Eat This Kitten!: Vlad tests Jazz's loyalty by having her fight her brother.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Trying to help or not, it’s understandable that Danny would snap at Jazz after she hacked his personal laptop without asking.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Jazz's characterization in this episode, paying no attention to anything that Danny knows about the ghosts that he's fought and doing nothing but get in the way.
  • Lovable Coward: At one point Danny hides in the janitor's closet, then dives into a trash can, because he can’t talk to Jazz about her causing him issues.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Exploited by Danny. He knocks Dash's books out of his hands and then immediately says that Tucker did it, so Dash stuffs Tucker in a locker without question. When Tucker continues to mock Danny afterwards, Danny does the same thing to Kwan, who with the same results.
  • Mrs. Hypothetical: Danny's computer password is "Paulina Fenton."
  • Not Now, Kiddo: In a Brick Joke way. Jazz angrily asks Danny, "How come you never told me Vlad Masters has ghost powers? And he has a thing for Mom?" In fact, Danny did tell her the second part the first day they met Vlad in "Bitter Reunions," and she didn't care.
Danny: Is he hitting on Mom?
Jazz: As long as he's got working toilets and Mom says "No," who cares?
  • The Not Secret: Vlad thinks his identity as Plasmius will be a big shock to Jazz, only to find out she already knew.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Danny is almost insulted that Skulker seems to be ignoring him and doesn't even call him a whelp.
  • The Password Is Always "Swordfish":
Danny: (to Jazz) You hacked into my private ghost files?! How'd you get the password?
Jazz, Tucker, and Sam: It's "Paulina Fenton."
  • The Reveal: Vlad learns that Jazz knows Danny's secret.
  • Serious Business: This moment when Danny attacks Skulker in the Ghost Zone in search of his missing sister:
Skulker: [To Danny] That's odd. No witty banter?
Danny: Not in the mood. All I wanna know is what you've done with Jazz!
  • Shaking the Rump: done by Maddie at the end after beating Jack at checkers and since she has Hartman Hips the Fanservice is doubled.
  • Shout-Out: Vlad must be a Teen Titans fan — not only are the bloodstream nanobots identical to the probes Slade used in the Season 1 finale "Apprentice", but he puts them to the exact same use. Good thing Danny gets the remote control out of his hands before he can take it as far as Slade did!
  • Stereo Fibbing:
Vlad: You two know each other?
    Danny/Jazz: Yes/No. No/Yes. Sorta...
  • Stuffed into a Locker: When Tucker makes fun of Danny for being stuffed into the Fenton Thermos for hours, Danny gets Dash and Kwan to do this to Tucker as payback.
  • Unwanted Assistance: The episode's premise.
    Jazz: Danny, calm down.
Danny: Calm down?! How can I calm down with you constantly butting your nose where it doesn't belong?
Jazz: I was just trying to help.
Danny: Nobody asked you to help! You're a lousy ghost hunter, an overbearing sister, and an annoying, obnoxious know-it-all with no respect for her brother's privacy, so STOP! HELPING!
  • What the Hell, Hero?: After some students eavesdrop on Danny yelling at Jazz and see her run out crying, while they don't say anything to him, you can clearly tell that's what they're thinking by their scowls at Danny for making Jazz cry.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: To The Real Ghostbusters episode "Janine's Genie" — the red-headed female associate of the team decides she wants to fight with them in the field. By the end of the episode, she decides she's better off supporting them in her old way while leaving the fighting to the rest of them, at least for now.
