Tropes

  • Adapted Out: The Eradicator is notably missing while Hank Henshaw, Superboy, and Steel appear as Bounties. Bizzaro ends up taking his place.
  • Back from the Dead: Not Superman, but actually Supergirl herself. She reveals in the episode's related Investigation that she remembers dying once, showing that she remembers the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Supergirl has rescued a revived-yet-still-unconscious Superman and Xa Du has been defeated. However, Calculator has managed to trap them both in the Phantom Zone, though he states that Oracle would be able to help them escape sooner or later.
  • Broken Pedestal: Lex Luthor has become this to Calculator, who has decided to take matters into his own hands.
  • Foregone Conclusion: This episode is called "Death of Superman" for a reason.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid: Supergirl calls upon the villains for help, using Lex Luthor's actions in Earth 3 as justification. Lois also uses Lex occasionally helping Superman as justification for why the villains should help Superman fight Doomsday.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Xa Du turns out to be the one behind Doomsday's return, which would lead to Superman's "Death."
  • Villainous BSoD: It's hinted that Lex Luthor "going humanitarian" is due to the events of Earth 3.
  • Walking Wasteland: Doomsday has become this, requiring taking a probiotic just to get near him to avoid having the spores kill you upon encounter.
  • Wham Line:
Calculator: What!? Now, Supergirl thinks we're a charity? That does it. I am done being made a fool of. Lex has gone soft — he is a total embarrassment. It's time for a change of leadership.
