When Hal Jordan sees Carol Ferris with a new boyfriend, his ego can't handle the rejection, resulting in the most absurd Lantern battle ever.
Tropes:
- The Bus Came Back: Dex-Starr reappears for the first time since "#RageCat"
- Chekhov's Gun: If you look, Sinestro's already wearing a yellow power ring even when he's disguised as Carol's new human boyfriend.
- Comically Missing the Point:
- When Jess forces Hal to apologize to Star Sapphire and Sinestro, he takes it to mean he should apologize for being too awesome and irresistible. Fortunately, they happily accept.
- Hal learns a very valuable lesson from this whole debacle: He doesn't need to change to make people love him, being himself is enough...unfortunately, this lesson completely fails to address the issue at hand (not that it stops Sinestro and Carol from forgiving him anyway).
- Create Your Own Villain: It's established that, not only did Hal's thoughtlessness provoke Star Sapphire's wrath, but Sinestro's as well.
- Gambit Pileup: Carol was dating Sinestro to make Hal jealous so he'd take her back as his girlfriend, but it turns out Sinestro was dating Carol to get back at Hal for ghosting him.
- Hypocrite: Carol. When Hal begs her to take him back, she admits that she was dating Thaal purely to push Hal into acting romantic and coming back to her, and glibly tells Thaal that she never loved him. But when Thaal admits that he never loved her either and was dating her purely to get back at Hal for ghosting him, she's outraged at being used.
- Never My Fault: Hal can't comprehend how the situation is his fault. Even his apology is summed up as "Sorry for being so awesome and lovable" rather than "Sorry for breaking both your hearts".
- Operation: Jealousy: Carol starts going out with Thaal Sinclair to make Hal jealous enough to want her back and actually act romantic. It works perfectly, until Hal breaks up with her as soon as they're back together.
- She Is Not My Girlfriend: Sinestro and Carol both think Hal and Jessica are dating, much to the latter's disgust.
- Sue Donym: Thaal Sinestro's fake name as a student ends up being Thaal Sinclair.
- Villain Team-Up: Initially, Star Sapphire and Sinestro are at odds, and then Hal ticks both of them off. To make matters worse, Dex-Starr shows up to help them beat down both Green Lanterns.
- We Used to Be Friends: Sinestro to Hal, before the latter ghosted the former.
- You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Jessica's reaction when all the villains, even Dex-Starr, forgive Hal and ride off into space on a Lantern rainbow.
