Recap / DC Super Hero Girls (2019) S1 E15 "#CrushingIt"

Go To

Diana's set to completely blow away a week's worth of extracurricular activities... until it turns out she completely loses her poise whenever her Love Interest shows up.

Tropes:

  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: When Diana's friends decide they must get rid of Steve, most of them ready themselves to strike him when he suddenly gets a phone call informing him he's been accepted at the military school he'd previously failed to get in. It turns out Barbara hacked the academy's computers to get Steve in and is surprised that's not how the others planned to get rid of him.
  • Bad "Bad Acting": Steve as Romeo. He literally reads his lines right off the script, totally wooden, as he climbs the ladder for the balcony scene. He still completely melts Diana's mind when he goes for the kiss.
  • Bishie Sparkles: They appear whenever Diana spots Steve, the object of her adoration, complete with a cheesy love song that drowns out her surroundings.
  • Cannot Talk to Men: Diana is hopeless, head over heels in love with Steve, unable to even look at him without being turned into a gibbering lovestruck mess. As Jess put it, "The Amazons prepared her for everything... except talking to boys."
  • Captain Oblivious: Steve. He acknowledges the people he meets but is never aware of what's actually happening around him.
  • The Cat Came Back: On Saturday, the girls try to get Diana to think about something else than her crush by going to the mall, the library, the video store, the fair... except everywhere they go, they inevitably stumble upon Steve (oblivious as ever).
  • Chirping Crickets: Cricket sounds (and a cough) are all the reaction Diana gets from the debate's audience when she exclaims "Is he not smart, everyone?" about Steve.
  • Conservation of Detail: When Steve first appears at Metropolis High School, he tells the girls he's there because he wasn't accepted at the military school. When Diana's friends decide they must get rid of him, Barbara gets him accepted at the military school.
  • Crush Blush: Diana goes all shimmery eyed whenever she sees Steve Trevor. She also sports sparkles and a blush that covers her whole face.
  • Crush Filter: Every time she lays eyes on Steve, Diana sees him surrounded by an airbrushed, pink, sparkling, soft focus frame. Romantic music also begins playing. In an unusual twist, Diana herself sparkles in Steve's presence.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: What is Zee's request to Karen after Steve steps in as under-understudy since Garth is out sick?
Zee: Remind me to banish Garth to the 27th dimension.
  • Everything's Better with Sparkles: Inverted. When Diana begins to sparkle from seeing Steve, it's an indication that whatever the Amazon is trying to do is sure to fail spectacularly.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Kara tries to slap some sense back into Diana, saying she's not allowed to be blown away by boys. "You're Wonder Woman! You're literally a symbol of female empowerment!"
  • Love Makes You Dumb: Steve's mere presence is enough to make Diana completely lose focus.
  • Oblivious to Love: Steve never picks up on how Diana completely loses it around him. That's how he is about everything, though.
  • Oh, Crap!: Constantly whenever Diana's friends spot Steve about to show up. The most epic one is probably the look on Zee and Karen's faces when their Romeo walks out after being dissatisfied with his costume, and it turns out Steve is their only available replacement.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Even normally pacifistic Jessica is ready to beat Steve up.
  • Ridiculously Average Guy: Steve. In the debate, his position is that he doesn't have one at all. And he shops at a boutique called "Every Shades of Beige".
  • Running Gag: Kara being annoyed that having a crush is compared to kryptonite.
  • Tempting Fate: At the beginning of the episode, her friends talking about how Diana's going to completely crush something later on in the week. Steve shows up and ends up making Diana completely ruin all of those things.
