Durkani: The truth is...
Kendarr: ...out of fashion!
Two aliens, Durkani and Lyssa, arrive on Excalibur, claiming that humans have been interfering with their planet's government.
This episode contains examples of:
- Affectionate Parody: Of The X-Files
- Aliens Speaking English: Durkani claims that he was able to learn English by studying secret transcripts of the radio transmissions his people had picked up from Earth.
- Expy: Unsurprisingly, Durkani, Lyssa, and Kendarr are expies of Mulder, Scully, and the Cigarette-Smoking Man
- Klingons Love Shakespeare: Kendarr takes a moment to tell the crew that, thanks to his species' study of humans, he has developed a taste for certain human things like pizza, ice cream and (unsurprisingly, given who he's an Expy of) cigarettes.
- Multilayer Façade: In a flashback, Durkani pulls a mask off an assailant to reveal a human face, only to pull that off and reveal the face of one of his species.
- Reptilian Conspiracy: Essentially used as a scapegoat by the government Kendarr represents, with any problems blamed on the aliens (that is, humans) rather than the government. The aliens even have scaly skin and lizard-like eyes to emphasize this.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Kendarr claims that his species is inclined towards suspicion and scapegoating, and that even relatively minor failures in government have a tendency to result in civil wars. The fake conspiracy about humans secretly manipulating the government was intended to direct people's paranoia towards an outside entity, and according to him, after it was started about two hundred years ago there hasn't been a single war. How reliable he is is unclear though.
