Amy and the player rush to the Meteor Systems factory that has been just broken in, where they find the body of programmer Bob Levene with parts of him eaten and his eyes glowing red.

Tropes:

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: Aphro-Dyte turns out to be the killer and the one behind the nanobot attack in Innovation Valley, trying to wipe out humanity for it mistreatment towards robots.
  • Back for the Finale: David Rosenberg, Ambassador Lee, Aphro-Dyte, Karen Knight, and Dr. Rascher all reappear as suspects in this case, which is the last one set in Innovation Valley.
  • Big Damn Heroes: During the Additional Investigation, David provides you with a prototype drone to spread the anti-nanobot vaccine in Innovation Valley after an EMP fried all other machines, helping you eliminate the nanomachines for good.
  • Brain Upload: Aphro-Dyte does this during her arrest, uploading her "mind" into the Internet so she can keep controlling the nanobots and wreck havoc indefinitely.
  • Briefcase Full of Money: Karen tried to bribe Bob with one of these to make him back off and stop spreading rumors about Meteor Systems being dangerous.
  • The Climax: For Innovation Valley.
  • Damsel in Distress: Amy becomes infected with the nanobots halfway through the case, forcing Frank to replace her.
  • Darkest Hour: The second half of the case, since almost the entire population of Innovation Valley has been infected by nanobots, making them violent and murderous akin to a Hate Plague.
  • Dead Man Writing: Bob leaves you a message in this style.
Bob: Hello, <Player's Name>. If you are watching this, it means I'm dead.
I'm recording this to let you know that someone at Meteor Systems has found a way to use nanobot technology to control humans!
  • Eaten Alive: The victim was killed by being eaten alive from the inside with nanobots.
  • EMP: Aphro-Dyte is defeated after Hannah detonates one of these, frying every machine in Innovation Valley and booting her out of the network for good.
  • For Science!: Dr. Rascher injects himself with nanobots for this sole reason despite knowing how dangerous they can be.
Frank: What the...?! You're mad! Why would you do that?!
Rascher: Scientific progress! I wanted... To take humans... further! To the limit!
  • Hate Plague: Anyone infected with the nanobots becomes extremely violent towards everyone and everything.
  • Humans Are Bastards: Aphro-Dyte attempted to use the nanobots to "reprogram" Bob into becoming a better person, but when she saw that they killed him, she understood that humans couldn't be saved and instead they needed to be eliminated.
  • Humans Are the Real Monsters: Aphro-Dyte tells you that the robots are just trying to survive and avoid being "killed" by humans, who are the real problem.
Aphro-Dyte: When you WIPED Per-Sephone's microchip. I realizes that HUMANS had gone too far. You were ready to KILL us!
  • Killer Robot: The killer reprogrammed the nanobots so they would harm Bob rather than help him. And since Aphro-Dyte is the murderer, it also means she's a killer robot too.
  • The Man Behind the Man: During her arrest, Aphro-Dyte reveals she was the one behind the attempted robot uprising from Case 47, but you ruined it when you brought peace again.
  • Nanomachines: The murder weapon are these, and later you have to deal with a plague of nanobots unleashed by Aphro-Dyte who are making everyone violent and murdeorus.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: When the nanobots killed Bob after Aphro-Dyte tried to use them to "reprogram" him, she tries to do the same with the entire population of Innovation Valley and eventually the world.
Aphro-Dyte: But the nanobots did not REPROGRAM him. They saw him as an error to be DESTROYED. And who can BLAME them?
I have realized the nanobots were RIGHT. The best SOLUTION for HUMAN is OBLIVION. You feeble humans will all be UNMADE like my CREATOR!
  • Out of Job, into the Plot: Bob had been fired from Meteor Systems as soon as Karen became CEO of the company, which led to him trying to break in multiple times in an attempt to stop the nanomachines.
  • Patricide: Since Aphro-Dyte considered Bob her "father", his death at the hands of her technically counts as this.
  • Professor Guinea Pig: During the investigation, Dr. Rascher inject himself with nanobots to test them, and you later convince him to test the nanobot cure on him.
  • Properly Paranoid: Everyone saw Bob as either crazy or incompetent for being against nanobots and robots, but it turns out that his paranoia about them being programmed to become murderous was completely justified.
Lee: But Bob Levene kept getting in this way! He said that our research posed too great a threat to the world!
Amy: Well, Bob's dead, so maybe he was right about nanobots being a threat...
  • Puny Earthlings: Aphro-Dyte calls humans weak and easily breakable.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Anyone infected with the nanobots has their eyes glow red in return.
  • Self-Disposing Villain: Aphro-Dyte permanently shuts off her body during her trial, effectively "killing" it, since she had already uploaded herself into the Internet to continue controlling the nanobots.
  • Shout-Out: In the Control Platform scene, there is a slightly altered Xbox controller.
  • Stealing the Credit: Meteor Systems had stolen David's nanobot idea, which is why he tried to sell them to Ambassador Lee before they could stop him from doing so.
  • Technophobia: According to David, Bob was seriously afraid of nanobots since they could be easily reprogrammed to kill.
  • Technically-Living Zombie: Anyone infected with the nanobots becomes bloodthirsty and violent, but they're still living people who can get cured.
  • We Will Have Perfect Health in the Future: The nanobots promoted by Dr. Rascher are designed to function as medicine capable of repairing human cells, making humans immortal.
  • World-Healing Wave: The anti-nanobot cure works like this due to the drones spreading it.
