Welcome to Gator Land.

After getting lost in the forest during a patrolling shift, Amy and the player follow a trail to an abandoned amusement park where they find the body of banker Coleen Truman, shot in the stomach.

Tropes:

  • The Alcoholic: Harvey, which is why he went from being The Ace to a Broken Ace.
  • Amusement Park: Gator Land, an abandoned park owned by Alec Howard that the victim wanted to buy under the guise of bringing it back to its former glory. When Steve Bundy, the construction worker she hired, found about it, the ensuing confrontation led to her death.
  • Broken Ace: You meet Harvey Fitchner in this case, a once great cop who became a drunkard and is now living in the Bayou accepting bribes and not doing anything good.
Frank: Dammit, Harvey, you're dead drunk! Where's the Harvey "Ace" Fitchner I used to know? You wouldn't have pulled a gun on a cop back then!
  • Broken Pedestal: Harvey used to be a role model for everyone in the department, especially Frank, until he started drinking.
Amy: I wonder what happened to Officer Fitchner that could have made him such... such a wreck!

Frank: What the hell, <Player's Name>... What's happened to Harvey?! Stay in the force long enough and it feels like you've just got a choice between dying a hero or becoming a monster!
  • Comically Small Bribe: Coleen offered Alec one dollar for his park, which he promptly refused to accept.
  • Continuity Nod: After you encounter a Voodoo Doll of the victim, Amy recalls how Frank was cursed with one in the previous case.
  • Fat Bitch: Shelly Dulard, an overweight woman who is unfriendly and constantly makes insulting remarks towards "skinny girls" like Amy, even tossing a bucket full of rotten fishes at her just for "showing off". She was also at odds with the victim since she recommended her a vegan soup after calling her fat.
  • Nervous Wreck: You meet Vanessa Kimmel in this case, a local girl from the swamps with a severe case of hysteria going on.
Vanessa: I didn't see anything, but I heard things. Whispers... Screams! And a thud... Then I heard a rustle of leaves, the killer must have gone into the woods.
I'm sure they went towards the abandoned shack, up north! This is where the devil nests! Death is upon this place!
  • Protective Charm: Vanessa tried to gift the victim a Voodoo Doll to protect her from harm, but she rejected it after calling her a tramp.
  • Rabid Cop: Harvey Fitchner, a former member of the Pacific Bay Police Department who now works as a local cop in the Bayou. He's also a drunkard who accepts bribes and tries to snatch the case from you after threatening you with his gun, although he later admits he did wrong.
    Harvey: You... You're right, I... I'm just a fool! I'm sorry, <Player's Name>! I've never been a good cop... I thought I was, but I was so... wrong.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Steve killed Coleen to stop her from demolishing the local theme park, only to have Howard, the owner, sell it to the bank anyway.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Shelly Dulard resembles Rebel Wilson.
    • Steve Bundy may be a reference to serial killer Ted Bundy, though there is no physical resemblance.
    • In the Shack Interior scene, there is a plank with "Walden" carved into it, this is a reference to the book of the same name by Henry David Thoreau.
    • In the Waterwheel scene, there is a swamp creature.
    • One of the clues is an envelope of cash with the message "Shut up and take the money".
    • Kauf Mart is a parody of Kmart.
  • Slobs Versus Snobs: The main conflict of the case is that Coleen, a rich banker from the city, made fun of anyone that came from the rural Bayou, which is what led to her death.
Steve: This isn't just about one park! This is about the entire Bayou! If we let the banks decide how our land should be molded, then what about our freedom?
Should we let people as evil as Coleen Truman dictate us how we should live? Can you really approve of this?
  • Small Town Boredom: Vanessa thinks this about the Bayou.
Vanessa: A few more years here in the Bayou and I'm gonna die of alcoholism and boredom!
This place is driving me nuts! I need to get away from here! Coleen Truman was my only escape plan, and now she's dead!
  • Visible Odor: Amy gains this after Shelly tosses a bucket full of rotten fish at her.
Shelly: Wow, don't get any closer, Officer Young. What's that stench? Smells like bad fish, am I right? You could benefit from a quick shower, just sayin'...
  • We Used to Be Friends: Harvey and Frank used to be work partners and best friends until the latter became a Broken Ace and Broken Pedestal.
Frank: "Pacific Bay's top cops... pals in life and death"... Yeah! We had the best arrest rate in the whole State!
And pals... Well, I guess things don't always go as planned...
