Chief Wright: It is indeed an honor to be participating in the annual festivities of Mr. Alastor, an influential gentleman of the highest standing!

The Flying Squad is invited to a prestigious soirée being held at the Elysium Fields Lighthouse by Mr. Alastor, a mysterious individual who every years organizes six parties for the Concordian elite. After the celebration is over, Isaac, a very drunken Maddie, and the player prepare to aboard the airship and leave, but get stopped in their tracks when they see the body of young woman Lucrezia Capecchi resting on the coastline, dead after being pushed out of the lighthouse's highest point.

Tropes:

  • Absence of Evidence: Viola manages to determine that, since there weren't any fingerprints in the killer's glass of champagne, then that means they must be wearing gloves for that to happen.
  • Accidental Murder: Jordan claims he didn't actually mean to kill Lucrezia, but he accidentally pushed her out of the window during their struggle. Surprisingly, Judge Takakura still gives him a harsh sentence in contrast to the most lenient sentences other judges tend to give to accidental killers.
  • Alliterative Name: Dolly Darnell.
  • Annoying Younger Sibling: Giulietta saw Lucrezia as this, as she decided to tag along with the family at the party despite Giulietta's insistence due to Lucrezia always drawing attention thanks to her scars.
  • Butt-Monkey: Poor Lucrezia might be one of the most unfortunate victims in the entire franchise by a long shot: her face had been horribly scarred after a fire destroyed her home when she was a child, people always sniggered and joked about said scars, Dolly abused her with an electrified belt and only hired Lucrezia because her burns made her look like "an authentic monster", and she got killed by the man she was in love with after he rejected her for tricking him.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: After the party is over, Maddie is so plastered with absinthe she's barely able to form coherent sentences and has to be replaced by Isaac.
  • Catfishing: A 19th century version of this is revealed to be the motive for murder: Lucrezia tricked Jordan with a photo of her sister Giulietta so he would agree to meet up with her at the top of the lighthouse, but promptly rejected Lucrezia when he saw her real face and accidentally pushed her out of the window when she tried to force him to stay.
  • Closed Circle: The entire case takes place either inside of the lighthouse or just outside of it, as the guests are forced to stay inside of the building due to a murder investigation going on.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: Due to the story being set in the late 19th century, the fact that smoking and consuming heroin haven't been proved as being dangerous for the health is brought up.
Isaac: Smoking? Hazardous to one's health? Why, I have never heard such nonsense, my dear Viola. Next, you'll be telling me that we shouldn't be using heroin as a cough syrup!
  • Destination Defenestration: The victim was killed by being pushed out of the lighthouse's window.
  • The Don: Vittorio Capecchi, a well-known Italian mobster, head of Capecchi family, and the victim's father, is introduced in this case as a suspect.
  • Foreshadowing: Charles mentions how he's jotting down some ideas for the upcoming World Exhibition.
  • Facial Horror: The victim had half of her face horribly disfigured with burn scars after surviving a house fire years ago, which made her subject to mockery and rejection.
  • Gentleman Thief: Although not explicit confirmed, Isaac literally calls Diego del Lobo a gentleman thief after you take a look at his notebook containing a list of valuables owned by the party's guests, which coupled with his mysteriousness makes him look like a burglar waiting to strike. Chief Wright also suspects him of being one too and even requests you to investigate him during the Additional Investigation, although nothing is proven.
  • Gilligan Cut: Happens at the beginning of the case when Chief Wright requests etiquette while attending the soirée.
Chief Wright: But as this is your first time, please ensure that both of you remain on your best behavior. I shouldn't like the Squad's good name to be sullied!
Maddie: Chief Wright, have you ever known me to get up to mischief?
[Scene changes to the end of the party, Maddie singing and barely able to walk due to being drunk]
  • The Grotesque: Dolly saw the victim as this, claiming that she looked like a real monster and that's the reason why she cast Lucrezia for her horror movie.
  • Hangover Sensitivity: Naturally, Maddie gets hit hard with this after the case is solved, looking absolutely wrecked and telling Isaac to speak on a lower voice. Doesn't stop her from accompanying you during the Additional Investigation though.
  • He Who Must Not Be Seen: Mr. Alastor is revealed to be this during the Additional Investigation, as Chief Wright claims no one has ever seen him.
Chief Wright: You see, I don't actually know Mr. Alastor in person! In fact, I don't know anyone who does! His invites just appear in the post, and he never attends his own soirées!
  • House Fire: In the main investigation, you find out that Lucrezia acquired her scars after surviving one of these, which according to her father was provoked by rival mobsters even though the newspapers claimed it was Vittorio himself the one who set the house on fire.
  • I Am Not My Father: Giulietta says she wants to be known among the elite not because of her father's dirty money but for her own merits, which is why she wanted to leave a good impression at the party and not be looked down due to her father's connections.
  • Lighthouse Point: The case takes place in a lighthouse located in Elysium Fields.
  • Mafia Princess: As the daughters of notorious mobster Vittorio Capecchi, Giulietta and Lucrezia are this, although Giulietta would rather not be associated with her father's business.
  • Man of Wealth and Taste: While not explicitly villainous, Diego del Lobo is still a suspected Gentleman Thief who claims to love "beautiful" things and will do everything to get his hands on them.
  • Mysterious Stranger: Diego del Lobo, a party guest who might or might not be a Gentleman Thief. His suspect's profile even labels him as a "Mysterious Gentleman".
  • Oh, Crap!: Evie's reaction when she informs you Vittorio knows about his daughter's death and wants revenge.
  • Only Smart People May Pass: For his second party, Mr. Alastor gave an invitation with a riddle which, if solved, gives away the location where the next party will be taking placenote
  • Parting-Words Regret: Giulietta laments how badly she treated her sister by telling her to not come to the party due to considering an Annoying Younger Sibling.
  • Prima Donna Director: Dolly Darnell, a former actress now turned into a film director, is shown to be ruthless in this regard, from casting Lucrezia as a monster because of her burn scars to using electrified belts so her actors' performances would look "real".
  • Scars Are Forever: Lucrezia had had her scar burns ever since she was a small child and survived a House Fire.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Taking You with Me: Jordan claims that Lucrezia attempted to do this by grabbing his pocket watch as she fell.
  • Themed Party: As it turns out, all Mr. Alastor's parties seem to be this, as the first one was on a lighthouse and the next one will be on an art museum while a seance is taking place.
  • True Beauty Is on the Inside: Lucrezia attempted to convince Jordan of being with her since he already knew the "real" Lucrezia due to all the Love Letters they shared before meeting, and her insistence after this failed is what led to her death.
  • The Un Favourite: Dolly claims the victim was this, as her burn scars made her undesirable and as a result her parents preferred her sister Giulietta. However, Vittorio is shown to be genuinely angry at her death and there is no indication that what Dolly says is true.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: Due to already being completely plastered on absinthe, Maddie throws up off-screen when she, Isaac, and the player discover the body.
