Don't worry, the corpse is inside that house.

Chief King informs you that a man reported a body part in a junkyard garden, which you shortly discover belongs to mortgage broker Ned Dillard. Time for your real first investigation!

Tropes:

  • An Arm and a Leg: You encounter the victim's hand before coming across his body.
  • Asshole Victim: Anyone who knew Ned Dillard personally had nothing good to say about him.
  • Clueless Mystery: Downplayed just like the case before, you obviously catch the killer, but the reason why Dennis killed Ned is never explained.
  • Deadly Bath: The victim had his hand cut off in a bathtub, which made him bleed to death.
  • Death by Irony: Ned was killed by his bodyguard.
  • The Don: Marconi, as the leader of the Italian mafia in the Industrial Area.
  • Early-Bird Cameo:
    • You're given a very brief explanation of who The Vipers are before they're properly introduced in later cases.
    • Rachel Priest appears on a TV screen inside Joe's shop before she properly debuts in Case 13.
  • Fiery Cover-Up: What the killer tried to do with the house where the victim was killed. Fortunately, he didn't manage to burn it before the police arrived.
  • Foreshadowing: When you and Jones fail to pinpoint the crime onto Marconi and thus he's unable to be arrested, Jones says that one day Marconi will make a bad move that will end his business.
  • Loan Shark: The victim's occupation. Surprisingly, it had nothing to do with his murder.
  • Rhyming Names: Tony Marconi.
  • Toilet Humour: When Grace tells you that the cocaine found inside a box of cookies contained laxatives.
Jones: AH! Too bad our guy didn't take some before leaving the mini-market... He would have left an easy trail to follow!
