"I've done ones twice this size on the old Q. Short for Barbecue."

A Plot: Davis asks Karen to lock him in a car trunk to see how fast he can escape, and chickens out within seconds. Davis considers it a harrowing experience, which annoys Karen to the point where she bets she can stay in a trunk for longer. But Davis ends up going to The Ruby and forgetting about her until she calls for help, which leads to Karen getting revenge by keeping him locked in a trunk for the rest of the day.

B Plot: Brent, tired of his father overusing the word "jackass", decides to start calling Oscar "hammerhead" every time he says the word. However, while Oscar eventually uses new insults, Brent becomes addicted to calling people "hammerhead".

C Plot: Lacey arranges a ladies night, with a Tarot card reader who tells her that she's destined to marry a dark-haired, unemployed man whose name begins with "R". She can't think of anyone who fits that description, until she learns that Hank has been going by his middle name the entire time she's known him... and his first name is "Richard".

D Plot: After Lacey's ladies night, Wanda and Emma decide to organize a better, more manly ladies night. However, they have problems operating a barbecue, and their replacement plans end up being as feminine as Lacey's.

Tropes referenced:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: When Hank learns about Lacey's tarot reading, he starts acting like they've already hooked up and are going to get married, to Lacey's dismay.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment:
Fake Palm Reader: And you die alone, without a husband, never married.
Lacey: [looking disappointed] Oh. [suddenly smiling] Well, that is so great. I die in a fiery crash, but no Hank.
  • Catchphrase: Brent adopts "hammerhead" for the episode to prove Oscar overuses his most famous catch phrase, "Jackass".
Brent: As long as you're still using the j-word, I'll keep dropping the h-bomb.
  • Crossword Puzzle: When the other ladies are shocked that Wanda so quickly identifies the 18th letter of the alphabet as 'R', she remarks "I do thirty crosswords a day".
  • Fate Worse than Death: How Lacey feels about her apparent destiny of marrying Hank, literally. To snap her out of her funk, the other women hire a fake palm reader to tell her that she's going to die horribly in a plane crash without ever taking a husband. Lacey is incredibly thrilled by this news. Not only does she not marry Hank, but she also gets to leave Dog River!
  • Flashback Cut: Emma claims she knows a lot about playing cards because she played with the guys a few weeks ago. Cut to that night, where Emma is the laughing stock of the card table because she keeps pronouncing Texas Hold 'Em as "Texas Hold Them".
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Hank's mother used to address him as "Richard Henry Yarbo" when he messed around with an Ouija Board as a kid.
  • Gender-Separated Ensemble Episode: An early part of the episode features all the main cast ladies at Lacey's house while all the men are at the bar.
  • Given Name Reveal: Hank gets one as a big reveal that he fits the description for the man Lacey's destined to marry. He is on a Middle Name Basis because he considers "Richard" to be an Embarrassing First Name.
Hank: I hate the name "Richard". Kids would tease me.
Lacey: Oh, they called you "Dick".
Hank: Why would they do that? Real nice, Lacey.
  • Grilling Pyrotechnics: Wanda sets the huge beef steaks on fire and the fire department has to be called. This forces the ladies to switch to salmon steaks.
  • In Touch with His Feminine Side: Though the other ladies are all uninterested in Lacey's tarot card party, Davis is upset that he wasn't invited. When he finds out it was a girls night where they drank cosmos, it makes him like the idea even more.
  • Mirror Character: During the course of trying to prove that Oscar is addicted to using the insult "jackass", Brent becomes addicted to calling people "hammerhead" and is shocked that he can't stop.
  • No Celebrities Were Harmed: The voice Davis uses when he quotes a cheesy action movie is clearly meant to resemble Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  • Pre Ass Kicking One Liner: Davis describes a movie he saw where the good guy popped out of a trunk and told a corrupt senator "Simon Says there was a recount; you lose" before punching him in the face.
  • Punk in the Trunk: Davis' story line begins because he is skeptical of people in movies hiding in car trunks and popping out at opportune moments.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: When Lacey wants everyone at the party to sit with the tarot card reader:
Lacey: Now who wants to go first?
Wanda: How about we go in order of who gives a crap?
Lacey: [cheerfully] Okay, I'll go first.
  • Shaped Like Itself: How Davis describes his "harrowing" experience of being locked in a car trunk for a few seconds:
Davis: The closest thing I can compare it to is being locked in some kind of trunk.
  • Tarot Troubles
  • Title Drop: Brent's ultimatum to his father is that, unless he stops using the J-Word (jackass), Brent will keep dropping H-Bombs (hammerhead).
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Apparently Emma, Wanda, and Karen are all tomboys in comparison to Lacey's girly girl. The three former ladies try to create a more "macho" party, but unintentionally create one that's even girlier than Lacey's.
  • Troll: When Brent realizes that Lacey's tarot reading implies she may be stuck with Hank, he has a field day with it and forces Lacey to tell Hank about it.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: This is what Lacey starts to believe about her "destiny" to marry Hank. She tries to find a way out of it at first, but starts rationalizing that maybe Hank isn't so bad. It takes a fake palm reading to snap her out of it.
