Spoiler Warning: There are UNMARKED spoilers on this page involving the plot of the episode.

When Hank comes up with an idea for Fitzy's big Mayor Challenge, it fractures the town and causes a chain reaction of huge changes. Emma decides to run for mayor against Fitzy, and ends up winning. She moves the title of Chief of Police from Davis to Karen, causing Davis to leave for Wullerton. Wanda earns a spot on Canada AM, replacing a bewildered Beverly Thomson. Brent is offered a huge amount of money by the Pump n' Go franchise to sell the gas station, who turns around and hands management of the place back to Oscar. Lacey also sells to Pump 'n' Go and decides to move back to Toronto. Hank is upset that his idea has turned everything topsy-turvy...

Tropes Referenced:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Hank pronounces Seamus's name as "Seemus". Crosses over with Malicious Misnaming later when Beverly deliberately calls him "Seemus" to make fun of him.
  • All Just a Dream: Nearly the entire episode is just a prolonged Imagine Spot by Hank after he was told to think about what kind of consequences his idea might have before saying it out loud.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: After Lacey suggests that Brent talk to Oscar about selling the gas station, since he owned it for so many years:
Oscar: [angrily] How dare you?! How dare you... keep the Pump 'n' Go people waiting? Sell it! Sell it now!
  • Biting-the-Hand Humor: When Lacey tells Brent that Canada AM wants to interview the people of Dog River about the prairie dog thing, Brent says "Wow, that network will put anything on the air".
  • Call-Back: The idea of a Giant Novelty Check is brought up again, this time with Brent disappointed that Pump 'n' Go didn't give him one.
  • The Cameo: By then-PM Stephen Harper as well as Beverly Thomson and Seamus O'Reagan of Canada AM.
  • Damned by Faint Praise:
Wanda: That's the best idea you've ever had.
    Hank: Really? You like it?
Wanda: No... but it's the best idea you've ever had.
  • Double Meaning: When Brent asks Emma's opinion about selling Corner Gas:
Emma: It's not my business. I don't mean that in a "none of my business" sense. The business literally isn't mine.
  • Exactly What I Meant to Say: Twice in the episode someone uses the word "cyclical", someone else corrects to "cynical", and a third party explains how "cyclical" could actually make sense.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Emma decides to run for mayor and dethrone Fitzy simply because he told her husband to shut up.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of the episode, Hank comes clean about his idea and people start arguing just like they did in his head. He runs out of the Ruby in a panic, but right after he does, everyone else gets distracted by the freshly made banana loaf and stops arguing.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
Wanda: Brent, you can't sell the gas station! It's a job that I love! [Beat] By the way, I can't work tomorrow. I've gotta talk to Seamus and Bev.
  • Imagine Spot:
    • Nearly the entire episode is one for Hank.
    • After Emma names Karen as Chief of Police, Davis imagines that Emma will make it up to him by buying him a pony.
  • Ironic Echo Cut:
Davis: The mayor doesn't have time to second-guess his decision.
Karen: He didn't even first-guess his decision!
  • Perplexing Plurals:
Hank: You know how in Regina they have all those painted pig statues and Toronto has all those painted statues of mooses?
    Wanda: Moose.
Hank: No, there's more than one. Well anyway, I was thinkin', you know, we should do the same thing here.
    Brent: What, confuse plurals?
  • Running Gag: Davis comparing Fitzy to several vicious, intimidating animals.
  • Series Fauxnale: Definitely set up that way. Interestingly, the episode was originally set for earlier in the season, but was pushed to the end.
  • Sesquipedalian Loquaciousness:
Beverly: What's all the fuss? Are gophers and prairie dogs that different?
Wanda: Well, from a taxonomy point of view, prairie dogs are members of the squirrel family, while gophers are members of the family Geomyidae. Of course, I don't want to get into a big discourse on morphology...
Seamus: Oh, would that we could.
  • Stealth Insult:
Oscar: Name one bad thing about casinos.
Emma: People become problem gamblers and lose all their money.
Oscar: If you take a take a problem gambler's money away, problem solved. See? You just don't think things through.
Emma: That would explain the ring on my finger.
  • Title Drop: Seamus uses the pun in his interview with Hank. Hank doesn't get it.
Seamus: Hank, when you proposed this idea, is it safe to say that people didn't... gopher it?
Hank: Uh... no, they liked the idea.
Seamus: Okay, no, but did they gopher it?
Hank: Yes, they went for it, Seemus.
