"I hope this goes on forever. You're gonna be staggering into lampposts, putting Preparation H on your toothbrush..."

A Plot: Brent breaks his glasses and, when Lacey teases him for being chicken, he vows to get laser eye surgery. However, Brent proves he is chicken when he won't go through with the procedure at the doctor. He recruits Wanda to help trick Lacey into believing he got the surgery, but their ploys prove unconvincing. When Brent fesses up to Lacey, he teams with her to trick Wanda into thinking he got contact lenses, as he was too scared for them as well. Ultimately, Lacey and Wanda admit their respective ruses, and they team up to teach Brent a lesson.

B Plot: Karen and Davis are looking for a new slogan for the police cruiser, and when Hank overhears Emma say a good one, he suggests it to the cops. He tries to apologize to Emma when he gets the credit, but initially she doesn't care. Suddenly Hank becomes the go-to guy for slogans, being recruited by Corner Gas and The Ruby, all the while continuing to swipe ideas from Emma. She eventually catches on and calls him (and later Karen) out for stealing.

C Plot: Taking the DRPD's new slogan above ("No crime too small") a little too seriously, Oscar starts bothering Karen and Davis at every opportunity for even the most trivial offenses against him. His constant hounding drives them up the wall, until they distract him.

Tropes Referenced:

  • Berserk Button:
Oscar: [calmly offering baking advice to Fitzy] Twenty minutes in the oven, or until they're brown on top.
Fitzy: Maybe I can put in some raisins.
Oscar: [suddenly angry] Raisins!? [to the cops] Book this dirtbag!
  • Call-Back: Davis's preference for the word "decal" is referenced.
  • Catch-22 Dilemma: Discussed. Brent tries to repair the frames of his glasses, but he can't see well enough to do this unless he has his glasses on.
Hank: It's like if you had a hearing aid and to adjust it, you had to hear things.
Brent: I'd be turning mine off right about now.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: When Karen sees Brent without his glasses on:
Karen: Actually, it's a good look. Brings out the face on your head.
    Brent: Thanks... I think.
  • Deadpan Snarker:
Oscar: (looking at a gas receipt) Wanda overcharged us 25 cents!
Emma: Gee, I wonder if you'll overreact to this.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Emma calls Hank a "weaselly little weasel" and a "weaselling little weasel face" in the space of just a few seconds.
  • Description Cut: After Wanda makes fun of Brent for his taped-up glasses:
Brent: Come on! It's hardly even noticeable.
[Cut to the Ruby, where Lacey takes one look at Brent and bursts out laughing.]
    Brent: Noticeable, huh?
  • Exact Words: Oscar holds the DRPD to their new slogan, "No crime too small" by claiming it's false advertising if they don't follow through on all his complaints.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: Oscar takes DRPD's new slogan literally and demands that they arrest people for crimes such as coming to a rolling stop at a stop sign, coughing without covering their mouths, removing bananas from a bunch in a store, and putting raisins in a banana muffin.
  • Finger-Tenting: Called "Schemey Fingers" and used in the various eye gambits. Brent teaches Wanda and Wanda teaches Lacey.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Hank comes up with a slogan for Brent; "It's BLT: Brent Leroy Time". Though Brent was asking about a slogan for Corner Gas, he actually digs the suggestion.
  • Gambit Pileup: Brent and Wanda attempt to trick Lacey into thinking Brent got the laser surgery. Then Brent and Lacey try to convince Wanda that Brent got contacts. Finally, Lacey and Wanda fool Brent into admitting that he did neither.
  • Got Volunteered: At the eye doctor's office:
Brent: Hey, thanks for coming with, Wanda.
Wanda: Glad to help. Especially since you made it a condition of my continuing employment.
Brent: Yeah. I like the part where I did that.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The cops finally get Oscar to stop when, after he gets accused of being a peeping Tom (while working for them), they claim their slogan means they have to arrest him. Oscar then relents.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
    Lacey: You shouldn't trick people!
Brent: You're right. [Beat] Anyway, now I have to trick Wanda.
    Lacey: Can I help?
  • Lame Pun Reaction:
Receptionist: Mr. Leroy? the doctor will see you now.
    Brent: Oh, so he's a doctor? That's a relief.
[He grins. The receptionist just stares at him.]
Brent: I'll just head on in, then.
  • Literal Metaphor: Brent declares they should "blow this popsicle stand" at the doctor, which gives him an idea. Cut to Brent and Wanda getting actual popsicles, and Brent once again repeating the phrase at the stand.
  • Literal-Minded: Inverted when Brent tells Lacey about not being able to put in contacts:
Brent: Nobody said I was gonna have to touch my eyeball!
Lacey: Brent, what did you think the word "contact" meant?
Brent: I didn't give it any thought! I mean words don't have to mean exactly... hot dog doesn't have any dog in it.
  • Malaproper: Subverted when Hank suggests a guy who can airbrush the police car:
Davis: Now this airbrush guy, does he have a porfolio?
Hank: No, a Camaro I think.
Davis: No, I mean does he have an example of his work?
Hank: Yeah, I know. It's on his Camaro.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: The Ruby's new slogan of "What's not to like?" (from Hank via Emma) backfires big time on Lacey when customers think it's an actual question and give actual answers of what they don't like about the place. Lacey blames it on Hank.
  • Rouge Angles of Satin: Averted for once with the Howler, using a pun in the headline "Police Say Hanks A Lot". Hank doesn't get it, though:
  • Shout-Out:
    • In an Imagine Spot, Brent pictures laser eye surgery as similar to a Bond movie, with an evil villain doctor:
Brent: Do you expect me to talk?
Doctor: No, Mr. Leroy. I expect you to die ...eventually. But for now, let's just do this laser eye surgery.
    • Hank suggests that the cops should put Xena on the side of the cop car. Davis is on board, but Karen nixes it.
