"Don't just think about it; do it!"

A Plot: Brent and Lacey try to prove who can be the better confidant and use Karen as their test subject. In the end, Emma proves that neither are any good.

B Plot: Wanda gets turned down for a credit card and gets very upset when she suspects sexism is at issue, as Hank got the same offer and was approved.

C Plot: After Karen tricks Davis into believing there's an upcoming police physical, he agrees to let Oscar train him using the Canada Fitness Guide.

Tropes Referenced:

  • Ambiguous Syntax:
    Oscar: Now give me twenty.
    [Davis starts doing pushups]
Oscar: I mean twenty bucks. I don't coach for free.
  • Big "NO!": Davis utters one just before he dashes to rescue his Hardy Boys books from oncoming traffic.
  • Boring Yet Practical: The shuttle run becomes this when Davis uses it to save his Hardy Boys books.
  • Call-Back:
  • The Cameo: By former alpine skier "Crazy Canuck" Ken Read, answering a complaint from Oscar on behalf of the Canadian Olympic Committee.
Ken Read: Those days are gone. I'm not crazy anymore.
    Oscar: No. Now you're useless.
  • Description Cut:
Hank: I, uh, got rid of my credit card.
    Wanda: Really?
Hank: Yeah. It was just making me buy things I didn't need. I mean I wasn't any happier.
    [Cut to the bar]
Paul: Sorry, Hank, you're over your limit and the company told me to destroy the card.
  • Dissimile: Hank trying to cheer up Wanda after she was rejected for a "pre-approved" credit card:
Hank: I'm just sayin', I got the same old "pre-approved" thing in the mail too. [Beat] Except they gave me a card. But otherwise, same sad story.
  • Double Meaning: After Davis says something that Wanda interprets as sexist, she calls him a pig and storms off. Several seconds later, she comes back to clarify that she called him a pig for being sexist, not because he's a cop.
  • Hypocritical Humor:
Karen: Didn't you read the memo?
Davis: I don't have time to read memos. [Goes back to reading his book] Oh, boy! Frank and Joe are in quite the pickle.
    • In another example, Lacey chews out Brent about confidant etiquette, while blabbing to him that a cafe patron might have to foreclose on his house.
  • Mistaken for Sexist: Wanda thinks she was rejected for a credit card because she's a woman, and she gets angry that Karen pays more than Davis to get her laundry done. It turns out Wanda was rejected because she forgot to return movies to Corner Gas and it hurt her credit score, while Karen pays Davis to do her laundry for her, who obviously doesn't pay anything to do his own laundry.
  • Motor Mouth: Lacey becomes one in a scene where she wants Karen to confide in her, but keeps asking so quickly that Karen can't respond.
  • Secret-Keeper: Lacey and Brent have a contest to see who's better at it.
  • Secret Test: Emma tells both Brent and Lacey that they're a better confidant than the other, but to keep it a secret. Both of them of course fail the test by bragging to the other the next chance they get.
    Emma: See? You both suck.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Davis is a big fan of The Hardy Boys.
    • When Wanda thinks her identity has been stolen, Brent jokes that it was "probably that Bourne guy".
    • The ParticipACTION song plays as Oscar encourages Davis to follow the Canadian Fitness Award Program.
  • The Oldest Tricks in the Book: Hank asserts that the "pre-approved" credit card mail is one. Then Brent gets Hank to fall for another one, the "something on your shirt" gag, twice.
Brent: Older than this? [points at Hank's shirt, then flicks his nose when he looks down]
Hank: [rubbing his nose] That's not in the book!
  • Training Montage: Parodied with Davis and Oscar. It even gets a cheesy inspirational background song.
  • Visible Boom Mic: When Brent and Wanda discuss movies, Wanda claims that production values are not important, only story and character. A boom mic then swings down and clonks her on the head.
