Recap / Code Lyoko S 1 E 10

Go To

Can you imagine how surprised our heroes are when the new girl in school walks into the classroom and they realise that she is the spitting image of Aelita? It’s all the more troubling because there is no trace of their virtual friend on Lyoko. Jeremy is certain that this is no simple coincidence. Jeremie believes the new girl, named Taelia, must be a real, live version of Aelita. His friends are not so easily convinced, and in the end, they turn out to be right. Aelita is still on Lyoko, but she is injured and captured by a Guardian.

To make matters worse, X.A.N.A. has taken control of the samurai costume from Yumi's history project and sets it on the group, namely Yumi. Also, Jeremy, under the belief that Aelita simply has amnesia, tells Taelia everything about X.A.N.A. and Lyoko. After hearing this, Taelia thinks that Jeremy is trying to take over the world and goes to tell the cops about Jeremy's secret. Odd, Ulrich, and Aelita must hurry to the activated tower before Yumi gets killed by her own samurai costume project and before Jeremy gets taken away by the cops.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Animated Armor: Eastern-style variant, as XANA animates an antique suit of Japanese Samurai armor to use as an assassin.
  • Buffy Speak: Ulrich refers to the suit of samurai armor as a "thingamajig" and a "whatever" to Yumi, though this is because he doesn't know what it is, just that it weighs a lot.
  • Call-Back: A guardian returns for the second and final time after it had previously imprisoned Yumi in "Image Problem", something that Ulrich notes to Odd.
  • Chuck Cunningham Syndrome: The guardians are never brought up again in future episodes, despite proving to be unorthodox to deal with by the Lyoko Warriors (it requires fooling the Guardian, turning it into a Logic Bomb). Also, Taelia disappears from the show for no explained reason, and doesn't even cameo in background shots of students in wide shots (though given that it was proven that she wasn't Aelita coupled with Jeremie spilling the beans and almost being hauled away, it is understandable why the group wouldn't involve themselves with her again).
  • Continuity Nod: Ulrich mentions that Yumi was trapped by a Guardian when he and Odd find Aelita in one.
  • Go Through Me: Jeremie attempts this when the suit of armor XANA possessed at the start of the episode finds him in Taelia's room.
  • Identical Stranger: Taelia is this to Aelita, bearing a strong resemblance to her.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Jeremie realizes he goofed when Taelia tells the cops about everything she saw, thanks to him taking her to the factory himself.
  • One-Shot Character: This is the only appearance of Taelia, not even appearing in later episodes of the show as a background character or the like.
  • Only One Name: No last name for Taelia is given, not even in the supplemental material.
  • Only Sane Man: Or "group of friends": Ulrich, Yumi (to a lesser extent), and Odd all act as this when Jeremie thinks he finally materialized Aelita through his (botched) materialization program results the last time.
  • A Rare Sentence: Upon Jeremie trying to remind Taelia about her "real identity" and X.A.N.A.:
Jeremie: X.A.N.A. has managed to take control of a samurai's armor! You're his sworn enemy, he's after you! You have no choice; you absolutely have to hide!
Taelia: As a pickup line, that's a lot more original than the one your friend tried!
  • Sanity Slippage: Tamer than any other episode, but Jeremie goes off the deep end when he thinks Taelia is Aelita. He snaps out of it near the time Ulrich and Odd find Aelita in the Mountain Sector.
  • Standard Female Grab Area: While Jeremie is not a villain, he does grab Taelia by the shoulders and shakes her. However, she is able to push him off her.
  • Take Over the World: Taelia comes to the incorrect conclusion that Jeremie is using the supercomputer to try and do this (or destroy the world) and runs to get the police.
